THE GAME WHERE SUMMER ARRIVED

THE GAME WHERE SUMMER ARRIVED

Tony Cohen13 May - 19:17

While Thapar's away The Maldes will play!!!

Its May Its Saturday and its CRICKET TIME.
For our 1st game of the season we are visiting the beautiful Island of Berkhamstead.
Massive changes from last year as:
Skipper Rahil neglects his duties for some beer
Michael Lee and Troy Barrett have been put under the Thumbs spell with the welcoming of baby girls. We wish them well along with Dean, Tej and Dan Foster who also all welcomed girls into the world.
DSJ our own triple threat would rather play rugby and get some Seychelles sun on his back
Abhijay is working hard for his exams or so he tells us
Sid, Ruben The Hamster Faz and Adam have all been dropped and are playing in the 1s
Alex the Liddel has not been seen so a new team with some new embryos, new players and the returning recurring ageless Ross turn up at Outer Hertfordshire.
A welcome return for Geoffrey even if he is 56 minutes late!!!

Berko win toss and bat on what looks like a good wicket

Ross takes the new shiny cherry at the bottom end and 2nd ball is back in the old routine as he snares J Todd for his 250th second team wicket. A great start becomes even better as Curtis is caught and bowled by Roscoe. Luke Frey who we know is a fabulous bat is soon back in the pavilion as Sakol is caught really well by NElson. Enter Caiden the new Berko captain and he ended playing the most fantastic innings. 62 for 5 brings in Costin and he and Patel help Dan Caidan get Berko to 167 for 7 and M Jomegol hits out along with his skipper and takes it to 209 for 8 and Ross returns to end the innings and leave him with 4 for and 253 wickets.

Caidan has played an absolutely magnificent innings and held his side together with 112 out of 224 yes 50% of the runs. 2nd highest scorer was extras. A good bowling performance aided by some good catching and some excellent fielding.
What was strange on this quirky beautiful setting was that the short downhill boundary was hard to hit as the ball slowed down and the long uphill boundary was like lightning.

An amazing tea was held and enjoyed and TC soaked up the sun.

After tea we resumed with me not sure who was favourite.

With Sid and the Lid not around NElson opened with Tej but was soon back in the hutch after one magnificent shot when he was caught at midwicket. Krish came and helped Tej past 50 but got castled by Jomegol M with one that stayed a tad low. Enter Malde N to join little bruv. Neel started to play some shots as he was trying to catch Tej and they played beautifully in their own inimitable styles and it was a surprise when Tej hit Jomegol H to short mid wicket where Frey took the catch (no comments about his stature!). We were now 146 for 3 and Jas joined Neel with his distinctive bright blue helmet.

Neel fell when Caidan got one through his defence (not sure how) and we were 171 for 4. New bat Dan Stay (called At Home) joined Geoffrey and Geoffrey pummeled and At Home nudged and stroked but they both fell with the winning post in sight. Aadit joined Jasanjeet Grewal (known as Oliver) and we were home by 4 wickets in 44.3 overs.

A very good win and a good start. 30 points.
