Sunday morning was a gorgeous time to be playing cricket as we entertained Berkhamsted. From the off the sun was emitting oven hot warmth.
Captain for the day, Aarav, won the toss and elected to don the pads. Having made a calm start, disaster then struck as Zach (4) had to fall on his sword after a mix up with Aarav. This actually proved to be the only blemish of the game in what would turn out to be a highly impressive team performance. Ayaan (9) and Aarav continued to progress the innings, and when Aarav (25*) reached retirement (that’s 7 retirements from 7 now!) in efficient time (19 balls) it was left to the Aldenham collective of Henry and Ethan to maintain momentum. This was achieved by Henry working the gaps and Ethan latching on to anything stray, they dovetailed beautifully. It was a fine partnership, both reached retirement with Henry scoring 26 off 25 balls and Ethan 27 from 18 balls (5 boundaries). The run scoring did not stop there, with Adi (17), Dylan (9*), Rohan N (3) and Nimay (3*) all contributing essential late over runs. We closed on 155-4.
Lucas and Rohan N opened the bowling, and Rohan in particular, bowled a splendid spell with figures of 0-5. The run rate was kept in check by Zach and Dylan, with Dylan putting in his most consistent work of the season as he was rewarded with 2 wickets (3-0-15-2), a fantastic catch from Zach and one from Ethan which was none too shabby either. With the brakes applied, Radlett had their noses in front, but if Berko could capitalise in these batter friendly conditions they were never going to be out of the game. Indeed, a partnership did begin to flourish but it was a moment of brilliance from Zach that ended it, as he made up plenty of ground to cling on to a steepler off the bowling of Ethan (1-11). Soon after it was time for golden arm, Nimay (1-18), to enter the fray and again he weaved his magic as he enticed their batter (Berko’s equivalent of our Patrick) into an expansive drive and his timbers were duly disturbed. Thereafter, whilst not claiming any more scalps, we managed to see out the game and record victory by 10 runs. Special mention to Zach for his fielding, the two catches he took were vital and he was lightning to everything that came his way, saving valuable runs in this tight contest. Without doubt this was one of our best showings of the season.
M.O.M. Quite a few vying for it today, but Ethan is the man, he produced his best batting in a Radlett shirt, and a wicket and a catch topped off a fabulous all round display
