We are pleased to announce that the lower ground renovation project has now been completed - a close to £30K improvement project at the club. This completes, for now, our lower ground investment programme which of course saw improvement work to the pavilion earlier in 2025.
Early September weather did cause further delay to the project but fine weather finally arrived later in the month, into October allowing the work to be carried out.
As a reminder the works included:
1) Excavating the square to a depth of 50-70mm
2) In-filling with fresh Ongar loam
3) Laser levelling across the playing area
4) Re-seeding
The attached image shows the germination sheet that will remain in place for about a month, allowing the new seed start to grow.
Additionally, we took the opportunity to increase the irrigation capacity to the lower ground by running a spur from the watering system on the upper ground, which will ease maintenance of the new lower square into the future.
If you have a few moments, it is worth taking a look at the images under the album 'Lower Ground' on the Radlett website or app under media/photos, to see how much work has actually taken place.
Thanks go to the Radlett ground staff for their support of the project, Elite Sports Turf , the contractor and to Rob Kendle, our ground work consultant.
By far the greatest thanks must go to the club members who have supported this improvement project, especially those who kindly donated to the fund that make this project happen - the club will be eternally grateful to you all.
Let's look forward to 2026 when the upgraded lower ground facility will support Men's and Women's senior cricket and our Youth Players match programme.
Once again thanks to everyone for their support,
Colin Chatfield
