Match report
Having had a really positive session with stand in coach and new player, Gerry Davies, we travelled to Surrey with last weeks defeat firmly behind us. We were looking forward to facing another well-established division 2 side. Having won the toss, the opposition elected to field first. Cath and Louise got us off to a great start. Louise was lucky having been dropped twice but then got out to a superb diving catch. Thereafter, they made us work really hard for our runs and a string of maidens forced us to make a couple of risky runs that resulted in some close run outs. They couldn't get the last wicket though, that of another Louise (sorry I don't know your surname!) who sprinted between the wickets to score her first run, brilliant. So on 104 runs we entered the field. Unfortunately we couldn't contain their score but we did manage to push them to 31 overs and there were some great bowling performances from Louise (1), Piya (1) and Michelle (3). Gerry also bowled well and Helen was very unlucky not to pick up any wickets having caused the opposition some trouble. There were some good (and some not so good) fielding performances, especially by Gerry and our debutante Louise (hope the bruises aren't too bad!). I think we will all agree that we had an enjoyable day despite not winning. So we will take the positives from this game, train hard and look forward to hosting Shepperton at home next Monday.
