Radlett CC 2nd XI v Flitwick on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 12.30 p.m.
Match was Abandoned

Match report On a cloudy, humid afternoon, Flitwick won the toss and chose to bat first. The pitch, at the top edge of the square, showed slight traces of green.

Johnson Mafa and Stuart Browne opened the bowling. Johnson took a wicket with only his second ball, Oz Edwards taking a very good catch stooping low and forward at second slip. Flitwick's second wicket partnership replied by scoring at five an over for the first 9 overs. Johnson bowled a wicket maiden to take his second wicket with the score at 46 runs. Flitwick's non-striking No 2 batsman set off for a run to Matt Bell in the covers, but was sent back. Matt's quick throw to the bowler's end was caught by Lee Fortis, who completed the run-out by breaking the wicket backhanded.

Lee Fortis and John Barr replaced Stuart and Johnson at overs 18 and 19 respectively. Radlett took 83 minutes of playing time to bowl their first 20 overs, and at over 24, slow left-arm bowler Haydn Smith replaced Lee. John Barr bowled very economically, and by over 30, completed after 116 minutes, Flitwick had reached 111-4. David Hegarty took over from John Barr with a maiden at over 33, John Barr held two catches from Haydn's bowling in over 34, and Flitwick's score had become 126-6. Their Nos 7 and 8 batsmen then attacked the bowling, helped by the short distance to the top boundary. Flitwick's last four wickets added 67 runs to the score before their innings ended after 50.4 overs. Haydn and David both took three wickets. Radlett's fielding, with seven catches and a run-out, was very good, although one stumping chance was missed off Haydn's bowling.

At tea, Flitwick had gained 8 bonus batting points, and Radlett had received 10 bonus bowling points. The unused three overs from Flitwick's innings were added to the 47 overs allocated to Radlett's innings to give a new total of 50 overs.

Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, began to fall when Radlett had reached 45-1 from 11.1 overs. The rain continued to fall, the outfield became wetter, and the game was abandoned. Both teams received 10 points. Luton Town and Indians 1st XI won their game and Cockfosters 1st XI acquired 13 bonus points. Both sides overtook Radlett in the Division 2 league table. Broxbourne 1st XI, the current leaders, lost their game, so the four teams are now bunched quite closely at the top of the division.
