Match report
THE GAME OF LETT THE EMBRYOS RETURN
On a strange humid overcast yet sunny day we welcomed our friends from Northwood to Cobden Hill looking to reverse the last few weeks results. Games against Northwood are always tight well contested games against a club with similar values to ourselves.
I arrived from hospital not feeling great but had lots of water with me.
With skipper Rose and vice Captain Troy absent it was down to Tej to pick up the mantle again. Tej spins the coin and wins the toss and elects to bowl on what looks like a newish greenish pitch. Ross takes the new cherry as our Arch nemises Neeru and Reeve stride to the crease. Neeru as we know is one hell of a player and Reeve can be the Mike Atherton sticking around and alllowing everyone to play around him.
Ross and Koby bowl tight first overs with the customary 1st ball going for wides. Ross then runs in and bowls Stuart Reeve with a jaffa (the red ball was not available!!!!) and its 7=1.
Koby bowls 4 tight overs and is replaced by Michael Lee and he is immediately rewarded with a great delivery bowling Charlie Blake. Next over Tom Fielden takes a fantastic catch off Michael down legside to remove the prolific Patel. 20 for 3 and Ross is bowling back to his best. Beeru is starting to return to form and this could be dangerous for us. Ross then gets Kenny LBW and its 37 for 4.
Runs are hard to come by as the youngsters in the side led brilliantly in the field by Alex (I’ll have cover point please) Liddell and Suhaan Shovakar who is looking like a very good 2s player. Samir and Koby were also brilliant in the field with great stops chases and energy. Neeru is still there and we need to be aware.
The rain then falls and a 47 minute rain delay is then held and no overs are lost.
Baron is supporting Neeru and slow progress is made as Delon and Suhaan tie down the scoring and Suhaan snares Baron caught by Alex. Despite bowling well Tej decides to bring back Koby and he gets the obdurate Ganesh caught well by Tom behind the stumps. Suhaan has bowled well but Tej makes a brave call bringing back Chip for his 10th over. Roscoe had taken his 200th 2nd team wicket last week and still looks like the youthful yoof who walked into Radlett in 1967. Ross snares 2 wickets with a bowled and LBW to leave Northwood 107 for 8 after 37 overs. Neeru is still there with another Tej moment as he brings Rhys into the attack and Rhys has Neeru caught by Alex for 75. NOt his most fluent innings but he stuck around and then Rhys wrapped up the innings by bowling Imran.
119 all out looks 25 short on a difficult pitch but we know Northwood have some very good bowlers.
A sumptious tea is held and after everyone is refreshed we return to the pitch 20 minutes later than normal due to the finishing the innings in 37 overs.
Tej pulls another Tej masterstroke with opening up with Tom Fielden and ALex Liddell. Tom succumbs to Neeru. Delon is promoted to 3 and this is the Tej masterstroke as Delon produced a sumptious innings of cuts pulls and outrageous massive 6s along with stout defence. Alex is out for 12 and Suhaan follows to the impressive Patel. Fredie then gets a jaffa 1st ball and we are 75 for 4 in the 16th over. Rhys and Delon are looking good and Rhys sensibly rotating the strike with Delon playing the Ben Stokes role. One 6 over towards the railway line was reminiscent of Adam Gilchrist when he played here. Rhys gets snared by Ganesh as the total edges closer and Delons innings ends when he plays on to Ganesh who then gets Samir. 3 wickets and 3 runs to win.
The experienced Burnley Original Michael Lee and Tej are watchful and you know they are waiting for a bad ball. Tej nudges the winning run and a brilliant game of cricket despite the low scores has ended and we are back on winning ways.
A word for Northwood who played the game in absolutely the right spirit.
Man of the Match Delon Lett
TFC Freddie Wright (Cant really be anyone else)
Champagne Moment Delon six towards the railway which drew gasps from the northwood boys.
WE wish Northwood good luck for the rest of the season.
