Match report
THE GAME OF THE WIZ JAY BANG
The 2s met on the unusual setting of the lower ground and following the 34 degree heat of Friday were expecting a heated occasion against our good friends from Letchworth.
Nee; becomes the second Malde to captain the 2s this year and proves he is a better tosser than his brother and decides to bat, With Matt and Abhay and Tej all missing the new look opening partnership of Will Wright and Alex Liddell strode to the wicket watched by half of Tyneside descend to watch Alex. The Wrights turn up too late as Will who started off in fine style missed a delivery from the impressive young Kilby and was castled. The dressing room wall was damaged in the ensuing few seconds. Troy joined Alex and against some tight bowling from Sandhu and Kilby built the innings but Troy went lbw to Kilby and Alex who is starting to establish himself in the 2s was castled by the experienced Sandhu. 44 for 3 and enter Johnny to join skipper Neel.
Starting slowly and the increasing pace Neel and Johnny were brutal against 13 year old Dylan Williams. He is going to be a quality bowler but Johnny wanted to push him and nearly won shot of the day but a jumping ball at the Keepers helmet at Deep MId Wicket.
A fabulous 100 partnership followed and Johnny got to 50 and out when he edged Hughes 2 balls in succession!!!. Jas followed next ball and Abhijay saw off the hat trick
Neel got his 50 and got out but left the Wiz to make a welcome return and he and Abhijay literally ran the opposition ragged with some lusty hitting and quick singles. 91 rather fast runs later Abhijay is out for a well deserved 57 and The wiz sees it through with Mick Lee to a good 271 for 8.
A better than normal Wenzels tea was enjoyed by most and Letchworth set off after a short delay as Johnny has been called to the 1st team pitch after a nasty injury.
The old and young open the bowling and Lee falls LBW to Chippy without score and Hughes and Mullen show there experience and start building the innings until Mullen unexpectedly slaps one from Koby into the grateful mitts of ALex. Chahal plays a lone hand and scores a quite beautiful 33 until he is out.
The Wiz has taken over from Koby at the Borehamwood end and is well quite honestly Superb as he rips the heart and sole out of Letchworth with a superb spell of 7 over 5 runs 6 wickets.
The last pair Piper and Manning play nicely but the rains come and a decision is made to call a halt.
Letchworth are a good bunch of lads and I was impressed with their young scorer.
A good win helps our promotion bid and puts us back on track after last weeks disappointment. A raging turner v Lutonians is not what will be required.
