Radlett CC Won by 135 runs

Match report The Game of The End of Season Awards outside because Elaine was 40
The end of season was drawing closer as Radlett II were actually allowed to play on the golden pitch against our good friends from Ware, well ware from There from Ware yes I know but where are they from. I told you Ware ......I could go on and on and on and on and on .........
Back to mundane matters. I arrive at Head Quarters and see 8 Radlett boys training and Allenburys and County Hall all there. Umpires are dressed ready for action and the Allenbury Captain informs me that their scorer has been taken ill and i am alone in the box.
Matt loses the toss via Jonny and we are asked to bat and Matt and Tej stride to the wicket and the going is steady unlike in previous weeks and 33 is put on without any trouble when Tej decides to play tennis and bats one back to the bowler for about the 4th time this year. Matt foolows shortly after leaving a straight one….yes about the 4th time he has done this this year!!!

Enter Will “Season debut” Wright and big Malde who quickly get into their stride and without trouble take the score to 119 in the 25th over when Neel decides for about the 4th time this season to not carry on and get 50 and chips the ball to Melisi from Barnaby T’s air moon balls. Drinks unusually are not taken until the end of the over!!!! 120 for 3 at half way. The Radlett road is setting us up for 250/260.

16 year old Yash takes up the mantle with Will and the scoring rate increases until Will quite inexplicably mistimes one and gets caught for a fabulous 59. Enter the wounded strapped up stand in skipper Jonny who hits a sumptuous shot down the ground on the floor for about the 4th time in 4 years!!!!. Jonny is soon in his stride and the scoring rate increases until Yash plays the ugliest hoik you have ever seen and is caught off another moon ball. 194 for 5 and The Burglar joins Jonny and pushes the score to 240 at the end of the 43rd over …..oh no wait Umpire Guy Lewis decides he would like a 7th ball spoiling my book as I put the letter M in and yes you’ve guessed it have to change it to W when Jas is LBW off the inside edge………. Enter Tom Fielden and the fun begins……..

Tom is a good young cricketer although only the second best wicket keeper in his family and runs very hard but immediately he gets to the wicket Jonny gets 50 and thinks its garden cricket so plays the ball straight to Barnard who takes a good catch. Jonny has decided the youngsters need to play a game (so he told me).

Enter Prabs and he and Tom are polar opposites when it comes to running. Tom running in with the bowler is told off by umpire Lewis for encroachment before the delivery has been made but standing umpire Metselaar says nothing and 3 balls later umpire Lewis calls Tom again and advises the scorer that there is 5 penalty runs to the bowling side for trying to steal a run…….Tom Smith is searched for and I frantically read the laws. Absolute credit to Allenburys captain Dane Barnard who tried to argue the case for Tom and didn’t want to take the 5 runs.

I’ve read the laws (as did Gunner) and don’t believe Tom was stealing a run and in any event if he was out his crease Allenbury’s could legitimately have Mankaded Tom.
Back to the cricket the tail wags with Prabs smashing 16 and the Best number 10 and 11 The Wizz and 7 nicknames saw us up to 285 a formidable score.

Allenburys are a hard hitting side and in young Tom Havers, as dashing as Dad Nigel, he can score quickly (80 last week in 64 balls) but he struggles against some high class bowling from The Wizz and Ross and when the 1st wicket went down at 32 in the 10th over you sensed Allenburys realised the score was too much for them. The rest of the innings was held together by Schlaepfer with a well made 55 abd Jonny/Matt rotted the bowling well getting pace off the ball and letting the spinners loose on The road and Jas gave away 14 in 10 Prabs 29 in 10 and Yash snared 3 wickets.

Ross came back and got the wicket he needed to be the 2nd team leading wicket taker ever on his own.

A good win to end a season which with some luck during the mid season losses we could have gone up. The youngsters will be a year older next year and more experienced so lets go for it.
