Radlett CC Lost by 47 runs
Match report
on the face of it we were soundly beaten but that does not tell the whole story.
Shorn of Malde, Malde, Rose, Barrett, Moffatt, Wright F, Francis, Steven Jennings D, the 2s made their way through the rain to a gloomy but overcast Northwood.
A last minute shake up meant walking wounded Michael Lee skippered the side with TC late again having cut his foot on some broken glass at home. However TC was still earlier than Chippy.
Mickey won the toss and decided to field with only one umpire present thanks to the league not having enough umpires.
We know Raveen is a terrific player (far too good for this league) and Reeve has always scored well against us but Ross bowled well against Raveen and was unlucky when an absolute plumb lbw was turned down. Whilst Raveen was becalmed the same could not be said or Reeve who had 30 before Raveen scored. The scoring rate was good but on 86 a quick single was scuppered as Yash threw the stumps down and Nirru was run out.
The fielding was sharp but not quite as good as the last 2 weeks with some catches going down and no Troy or Tej to cajole the fielders. HAving said that at no stage did the team let their heads fall and after Reeve abnd Blake went wickets came regularly till sergeant played a good innings.
Pick of the bowlers Roscoe with good support by Abhijay and Abhay. Yash took a good catch and should have had another.
273 was always going to be a big chase and this was made harder when Abhay and Geoffrey were back in the hutch with 23 on the board. Chris and Yash started slowly to build the reply and a terrific partnership followed with Chris showing what a good bat he is. 115 for 2 became 116 for 4 as Chris missed one from Ganesh and Alex hit one straight at Reeve. The boys tried to play shots to get closer tom the target and all played positively with Rahil out to a good catch by reeve. All the while Tom Fielden was looking a Million Dollars and playing his way into the 100 as a Wildcard. Some outrageous reverse sweeps, laps, and some classical sweeps took him to the brink of a maiden 2nd team 50, but he ran out of partners. It was a very very good mature innings played with purpose and intent.
With the tail in Raveen brought himself back on to get a few more wickets. I have said on many occasions he really should try himself at a far higher standard than Div 2B.
A great game with over 500 runs on a good track that offered something to the bowlers and what found really impressive was the amount of Under 19s on display for both sides.
I was impresses by Sergeant with the bat (better bat than bowler), Ganesh, Harrison behind the sticks and Kenny for Northwood
Our young guns can all be pleased with their contributions but Alex needs to sell his wicket dearly as he can hit it very hard, Abhay will get a big score next week, Tom F batted beautifully and just needs to watch the ball behind the stumps, Yash looks like he is ready to go bigger than 50, Abhijay was terrific with the ball, Rahil had better days with the ball but never complained and fielded well and batted well.
Mick and Ross and Duncan and Geoffrey and Chris helped all the youngsters.
A good game between 2 very good sides both prepared to promote youngsters.
