Radlett CC U15 v Bushey on Wed 22 Apr 2015 at 6:00 pm
Radlett CC Won won by 62 runs
Match report
The U15 season began on a clear evening at Cobden Hill yesterday.
Many of the usual suspects gathered, boosted by a new recruit, Hamish Jeyacumar, welcome to him and his family
James captained the side and WON THE TOSS!!!!
He wisely, not an adjective normally associated with James, chose to bat and we were off.
He and Freddie opened the innings, and Freddie was quickly into his stride driving sweetly and scoring at will. James was looking a little rusty and perished, caught at mid-off, but not before hitting a very well timed 4. Rahil joined Freddie, but saw little of the strike as Freddie was stroking he ball to all parts. He completed his 50 with 6, I think it was aimed at me, but nearly took Pam King out instead.
Dillan looked purposeful and scored 3 fours at about a run a ball, but succumbed swinging to a straight ball.
Luca scored a swift 10, before being caught and Hamish looked a little nervous and only scored a single.
Meanwhile Rahil plodded on, he was 5th out, having hit 3 fours in his 16.
Rahul came and went chasing quick runs and Sam (9) and Edward (3) saw out the innings, with Sam hitting one huge 6.
Radlett closed at 121-5, probably 25/30 runs light following the excellent start.
Bushey were soon behind the rate.
Hamish and Luca opened the bowling at both found some pace that hadn’t been noticed during Radletts innings.
Hamish was sending ball whizzing past the batsmen’s noses and picked up 2 wickets for 9 runs in 3 overs. One caught by James and then he clean bowled their County player.
Luca didn’t get a wicket but 3 overs 1 maiden 5-0 were very good figures.
George came on first change and while slower, kept a good line. He had the other opener caught by Hamish and his second wicket soon followed, the batsman had been dropped off a skier, but George trimmed his bails 2 balls later, 3 overs, 2 wickets for 6 runs.
Chris King didn’t lose anything by comparison and while unrewarded, 3 over for 9 runs was well bowled.
It was at this time that the Scorers life was probably saved, Pam brought me a coffee that restored feeling to my fingers and just about stopped me shaking.
James and Freddie were now bowling is fast fading light and both also found a good line, Freddie picked up a wicket with an excellent catch behind the wicket from Edward.
Dillan and Rahil bowled in the gloom, Rahil got one past the bat and bowled the batsman and Dillan picked up a double wicket maiden in the final over. Rahul did really well to execute a sharp run out as the batsmen hesitated.
Bushey had barely got the ball off the square and were 59-9 off their 20 overs.
The positives from this game were that a couple of our batters looked in pretty good nick, our bowling will trouble most sides, as long as the lads remember the idea is to get them out, not just bowl quickly. We gave away very few extras which is always good and one or two mistakes our fielding was sharp and we were generally “on the ball”.
A couple of things that we need to think about, please try and have you son at the venue in good time, I know its not always easy, but a proper warm up is important, particularly if we bowl first.
Batsmen need to be more aware of the match situation, we left 25/30 runs out there yesterday as we pretty much wasted the start that Freddie had given us, occupying the crease is not enough as we need to push on and press home our advantage, otherwise we will be punished when we play the stronger sides.
All in all, a good, if pretty cold, start to the season.
