Radlett CC 4th XI v Old Owens II on Sat 30 May 2015 at 1:00 pm
Radlett CC Won by 32 runs

Match report Batting first after being inserted by top-of-the-table Old Owens 2s, Radlett looked to be heading for another defeat with the score on just 136-7 in the 34th over. But newcomer Shon Alisha, batting at 8, had other ideas, smashing an undefeated 87 off just 45 balls to turn the match around . The resultant imposing total of 269-9 proved too much for Owens, despite a fine 95 from nr 6 Atta and a 50 from the nr 2.

Stand-in skipper Ingram had batted nicely for his 62, but all the Radlett top-order had effectively got themselves out, all but one caught playing attacking shots. Fortunately, Alisha found good support in the lower order, with Amy Price (15) and Chris King (20) batting sensibly. (Amy’s pull shot for four off the quick opening bowler being a particular highlight).

Alisha has a distinct aversion to dot balls and allowed just eight deliveries to go unpunished. Hitting ten 4s and two 6s, he smote the ball to all parts and extended the innings to expose the fact that Owens appeared to lack a decent fifth bowler.

Chris King and Amy Price bowled decent opening spells, King in particular beating the bat (as last week) on numerous occasions, before getting the nr 1 courtesy of a smart catch by Anje Lague at square leg. Spin twins Lague and Kailash Morjaria then applied the squeeze for the next 20 overs, conceding just 65 runs and taking three wickets.

However, the nrs 2 and 6 had batted watchfully and, with the twins completing their allotted overs, accelerated the scoring against the change bowlers. But scoreboard pressure was building and Wright struck in the his third over as the opener lost his off stump having a mow, A good catch by Alisha in Wright’s next over left Owens on 157-6, but with 50 runs coming off the next 5 overs things were starting to look dangerous again. Ingram then bowled the attacking Perara (25 off 13 balls), then got the nr 9 caught behind by the juggling Nick Scott to leave Owens on 201-8 with only 10 batsmen.

Farming the strike, nr 6 Atta was now scoring at the required ten an over until, in the 47th over, he lofted ingram to deep mid-on, where Alisha fittingly held on to give Radlett an unlikely victory.
