Sawbridgeworth v Radlett CC 1st XI on Sun 31 Aug 2003 at 12:00
Radlett CC Lost 7 wickets
Match report
Radlett’s weekend came to a disappointing end when they unable to successfully defend the Becker Transport cup at a sun drenched Shenley Cricket Centre.
Having won the toss captain Nick Fielden elected to bat on an excellent batting track. The in-form pairing of Fielden and Nick Hampton again gave Radlett the perfect platform to launch a big score. Hampton was eventually first out for a quick fire 39 bowled by Wilson and with Haydn Smith and Evans following shortly after Radlett needed to rebuild their innings at 112 for 3.
However with Stephen Lowe joining Fielden at the crease once again Radlett looked likely to set a challenging score. Fielden was eventually caught for 81 but Jim Chaudry and Lowe ensure Radlett passed the 200 mark with 10 overs to go.
The game turned with the introduction of Hull into the bowling attack. His first over brought an injudicious shot from Chaudry and with Lowe being run out for 37 in the following over the wheels came off the Radlett innings. Radlett eventually limped to a disappointing 232 all out when they knew they should have been able to set a target of closer to 260.
Radlett started off brightly with Stuart Browne picking up two early wickets however Hull who rode his luck early in his innings and Wilson put together a decent partnership which took the Essex side passed the 50 mark.
When Wilson was adjudged to be LBW with the score on 69 off the bowling of Browne Radlett were in the box seat. However that was to be the last success for the Radlett side as a mixture of poor bowling and superb shot making by Walker and Hull enabled Sawbridgeworth to pick up boundaries at will.
In the end it was a comfortable victory for Sawbridgworth by 7 wickets and with several overs remaining. Walker finished not out on 102 but man of the match for his bowling and 78 not out went to Hull.
