Radlett CC Women's Super 8's v Old Actonians on Sun 31 Aug 2014 at 9:00 am
Radlett CC Won by 22 runs

Match report Radlett Women rounded out their North London League campaign with victory over Old Actonians, thus securing the runners-up spot in Division A. The 9am start meant that the top pitch at Cobden Hill was still heavy with dew and would favour the team batting second. Unfortunately skipper, Katie Pankhurst, lost the toss and Old A's took to the field.

Radlett got off to the worst possible start with Chloe Jackson bowled for a duck by Antonia Welch in the first over and while Anna Harris and Lorraine Hartley knuckled down they had only moved along to 47 for 1 at the halfway stage. The drinks break, however, provided much needed impetus to the home side and they came out firing.

Harris and Hartley added 35 quick runs in 5 overs before their 82 run partnership was broken - Hartley bowled for 25. In the next over Harris brought up her 3rd half century of the season before departing, caught, after a well made 53. Her departure with 7 overs remaining gave Pankhurst (19*) and Sam Battman (23*) license to hit out and they combined powerful hitting and quick running to add a further 48 runs to the total, which stood at a very competitive 140 for 3 from their 30 overs.

The Old Actonian run chase was stifled in the early overs by some highly accurate seam bowling from Pankhurst and Amy Price (0-6). Although wicket-less the first 10 overs overs went for just 10 runs with Pankhurst (0-13) bowling 4 maidens in her first 5 overs.

Wickets began to fall in the first change spell with Natasha Martin (2-32) bowing both opener Preeti Kate (20) and the hard-hitting no.3, Katie Davies (16). However, the run rate was also climbing and despite Anna Harris (1-25) claiming the wicket of skipper Marilyn Smith for 25, Old Actonians had managed to haul themselves into a position of parity by the 25 over mark.

Pankhurst was able to turn to Chloe Frame (1-13) and Alice Lawman (0-11) to bowl the death overs and both delivered the requested level of control to restrict the opposition to just 20 runs in the final 5 overs - some way short of the run-rate Radlett had managed at the end of their innings.

The 22 run victory ensured Radlett would finish runners-up to Ickenham at the top of the table with just a handful of points separating the two sides. Radlett will take a moral victory knowing that they compiled a better win-loss record than the champions (9&1 with a further loss by concession, to Ickenham's 10&3). Their 3 games cancelled due to rain (in comparison to Ickenham's 1) ultimately proved decisive in the final analysis.
