Radlett CC Women's Super 8's v Purley Redoubtables on Sun 24 Aug 2014 at 1:00 pm
Radlett CC Won by 81 runs

Match report Radlett Women recorded their 15th consecutive Southern League victory with a hard fought win over Purley on Sunday. The result keeps them comfortably on top of the Championship division, with promotion to the Premier division now well in their grasp.

Batting first the Radlett openers, Hannah Smith and Cath McNeill made a solid start reaching 58 for no loss at the first drinks break on 15 overs. The partnership, worth 62, was eventually broken in the 17th over with Smith (22) stumped off the bowling of Cecily Scutt. McNeill (55) would go on to record her 4th half century this season before she was bowled by Sophie Pout. Skipper, Alexis Mannion, made a breezy 13 off 12 balls before being caught on the boundary as Radlett made it to the 30 over break on 133 for 3.

With a score in excess of 200 now the target an acceleration of the run rate was required and it was provided thanks to a run-a-ball partnership of 56 between Chloe Jackson (47) and Sian Ruck (27*). With some deft stroke-play and determined running between the wickets the pair took the final total to 224 for 6 at the close, leaving Purley requiring exactly 5 per over to steal the game.

To their credit Purley got off to a flying start in their run chase bringing up 50 from the first 10 overs for the loss of a single wicket - opener Sophie Pout bowled by Ruck (1-19) for 17. However, Radlett clawed back the initiative with the first change bowlers. Anje Lague (2-31) bowled with typical consistency and miserly economy from one end, while Katie Pankhurst (1-20) ran in hard and delivered some unpleasant short pitched deliveries which the opposition found difficult to handle, at the other. Their bowling partnership had broken the top order and put Purley well behind the required run rate.

With the opposition bats becoming increasingly reckless in a bid to chase the game, Kathy Morley (4-16) was able to take full advantage. Her consistent medium-pace line and length exploited the away side's attempt to stay in contention as she helped herself to career best figures in a Radlett shirt. The opposition, for so long in a promising position, soon found themselves in turmoil as they collapsed to 143 all out from 36.4 overs - 81 short of their target.

Radlett's next Southern League encounter comes in a fortnight against second placed Orpington - a team Radlett laboured to victory against earlier this season. A victory here would guarantee the Championship winner's shield returning to Cobden Hill.
