Radlett CC Women's Super 8's v Chesham on Sun 24 Aug 2014 at 9:00 am
Radlett CC Won by 9 wickets
Match report
Radlett have been in some one sided games over the last two seasons, but Sunday's home game versus Chesham in their penultimate North London League fixture demonstrated a whole new level of dominance.
Stand-in captain Katie Pankhurst won the toss and had no hesitation in taking to the field. For the majority of the season Pankhurst has forged an effective opening seam partnership with Amy Price, but they kicked that partnership into overdrive on Sunday. Pankhurst (3-6) claimed a wicket in each of her first three overs, with two more victims falling prey to her back of a length bowling style. Bounce and seam movement proving too much for the Chesham bats to handle and Chloe Jackson the grateful recipient of two catches behind the stumps.
Price was just as effective from the other end, taking the wicket of Chesham's dangerous captain Sue Benson in her first over - Jackson again taking the catch behind. Price then proceeded to rip through the middle order, clean bowling batsmen no's 5, 7 and 8 in her 3rd and 4th overs, before a slip catch to Samantha Battman in her 5th over gave her a well deserved 5fer. The next ball also saw the stumps out of the ground as Price finished with amazing figures of 6-6 from 5 overs - the 2nd best bowling figures in the history of women's cricket at Radlett.
The Pankhurst-Price partnership had reduced Chesham to 15-9 from 10 overs. Replacing Price, Natasha Martin was thrown the ball to finish the job and she did just that with her very first delivery. Chesham were dismissed for 19 in 11.1 overs!
In reply Pankhurst sent out Abbie Sullivan with Kathy Morley to open Radlett's reply. Sullivan showed some attacking flair and helped the home side level the scores after just 2 overs. Sullivan then fell to a catch, allowing Lorraine Hartley to come to the crease to hit the 20th and winning run just halfway through the 3rd over.
The match, lasting just 13.4 overs in total and a little under 90 minutes, was perhaps the most comprehensive victory the club has ever witnessed. Nine of the Chesham players had been dismissed for a duck - a record in all likelihood! Unfortunately the result, given the amount of matches Radlett has lost to rain, cannot prevent Ickenham from taking the Division A title, but a victory over Old Actonians on Sunday will have reduced the gap to a mere handful of points and set the stall out for another title push in 2015.
