Twickenham v Radlett CC Women's Super 8's on Sun 17 Aug 2014 at 1:00 pm
Radlett CC Won by 10 wickets

Match report It did not take long, after arriving at Twickenham's home ground, for the heavens to open and soak the outfield. However, some swift work deploying the covers meant that the wicket was saved from most of the deluge and blue skies and sunshine soon replaced the gloom. As such only an hour was lost meaning just a 5 over reduction for both sides.

Given the damp starting conditions it had come as something of a surprise that Twickenham chose to bat after winning the toss, but Radlett skipper, Alexis Mannion and her team, were not complaining given the strength of their bowling attack. The new ball seam combination of Sian Ruck and Hayley Arrol gave little room to manouever to the Twickenham opening pair and it did not take long for Arrol (1-10) to claim the first wicket, trapping Penny Thane leg before for 13. The only runs coming off Ruck (1-15) were from streaky mis-queues past the slip cordon. Mannion devised a plan to employ Laura Sandy as a third slip and sure enough had the second opener back in the pavilion off the very next ball - Sandy taking a superb catch down low.

After 12 overs of seam Mannion turned to the off-spin bowling of Anje Lague and Lorraine Hartley. Lague (1-18) bowled with typical consistency and had a wicket to her name in her 3rd over, as Twickenham skipper, Sunny Potay knicked off to Hartley at 1st slip. Hartley (1-26) also got her name in the wickets column just before the midway drinks break when Liz Foster was hit on the back leg plumb in front of the stumps. Twickenham were at 48-4 at drinks.

The home side attempted to force a much needed run acceleration in the second half of their innings and Amy Richford and Rebecca Jeppeson were able to find some success over the course of the next 10 overs. However, Mannion had another two in-form seam bowlers to deploy in the final quarter. Chloe Frame and Katie Pankhurst bowled well in tandem offering little scoring opportunities and posing a constant wicket taking threat. Frame (4-7) profited to the greater extent taking four wickets for the 3rd time this season, including both those of Richford (25) and Jepperson (26), while Pankhurst (1-6) also picked up a well deserved wicket of her own after a tidy spell. The Twickenham innings rather fizzled out in the face of the pair's onslaught as they were dispatched for 107 off 38.4 overs.

Radlett were in no mood to hang around in reply. Cath McNeill, Radlett's leading run scorer this season, was joined for a first 2014 appearance in the middle by Hannah Smith. The bowling was not consistent enough to provide much of a threat to the well seasoned opening pair. They paid due respect to good line and length, but were quick in their dismissal of anything short or wide. The plentiful scoring opportunities allowed Radlett to race to 100 for no loss off just 14 overs and Smith (52*) brought up a half century toward the end of the run chase - her innings also including a majestic straight six. McNeill (38*) played more of an anchoring roll, but showed signs of belligerency when the chance presented itself. Her square cut for four with the scores level sealed the 10 wicket win in just 14.4 overs.

The win, Radlett's 14th consecutive victory in the Southern League, further tightens their grip on the Championship Division. Their next three games against Purley, Orpington and Brighton should present more of a challenge, but with performances like this they will be confident of finishing the season in winning style.
