Match report
As I walked across the main pitch towards the lower ground thick smoke was billowing over the outfield. I thought that maybe the old dears that had complained had built a bonfire to try and smoke us out, but no it just Mark and Dwayne firing up the BBQ for the Radlett vs Habs annual "friendly" fixture.
Both sides were without of a couple of their strongest players, and Radlett were giving games to couple of lads that hadn't played much recently.
Convention has it that Habs bat first, as this particular year have a very strong side, and on that basis Radlett batted first.....
Freddie and Eddie opened the innings, and although not without a few scares, put on 39 for the opening stand. Freddie found the boundary 4 times and played well for his 20 until he was bowled. Eddie was hopping about a little to the quicker bowlers but played really well, also hit 4 fours and was disappointed to be bowled out for 22.
Rahul made 4 against his school-mates before he was caught trying to move the score along, but Maaz and Marcus came together to form a very effective partnership. Maaz, 32 not out, retired, played some aggressive shots and kept the score-board ticking over, but Marcus, who had been somewhat reluctant to make his way to the middle, made 19 very decent runs, including 2 straight driven fours.
Rahil and Joe were the not out batsmen at the end, and Radlett closed on a very competitive 123,
Habs opened with Chavda and Nathan, and George and Greg opened our bowling, Greg was tidy and had Chavda bowled for 12 and Freddie ran out Araan for a duck in the following over, leaving Habs 24-2.
Dillan bowled Aarash for 11 and Usman held on to steepling catch to send Aril back to the hutch off Marcus for 2. Habs were 72-4 and looking shaky. Marcus took his second wicket, by bowling Sunil for 3, leaving Habs 92-6 with 5 overs to go.
Harry was playing very well and kept Habs in the hunt with a very good 29, but he was running out of overs and partners. Maaz and Freddie had been held back to finish the innings and kept a tight line and length.
Joe smartly caught Talker for 5 off Maaz and Edward ran out Dillan in the last over for 6, leaving Habs 9 short of victory.
So a good victory for Radlett, coupled with an great BBQ cooked by Mark, I am told the chicken was excellent, however no-one bothered to hold some back for the heard-working scorer and match reporter..not that he cares......much!!!!! (the chippy was open on the way home).
Sorry for all the miss-spellings, it was the bar-ladies fault for plying me with Cobra.....
