Bushey v Radlett CC U13 on Mon 03 Jun 2013 at 6:00 pm
Radlett CC Won 6 wickets
Match report
Finally a proper Summers evening for Cricket!!!
Bushey hosted this match at their compact ground bathed in evening Sun, thats the bright round thing in the sky, in case you forget.
Bushey were missing a couple of stronger players, but Radlett started well and took a firm grip on the match from the beginning. James and Freddie opened the bowling and kept a tight line and length and wickets fell regularly. Freddie bowled one opener for nought, and James picked up the number 3 bowled for 6. Maaz came on first change and picked up the other opener for 3. Bushey were 15-3 and looking shaky. Some careful batting and sloppy out-cricket by Radlett allowed Bushey to rebuild and it took Dominic to entice their number 5 into a false stroke and he was bowled for 10. Some force-full hitting and more sloppy fielding let Bushey make some more cheap runs until Sam took a good catch off Gregs bowling to remove their danger man for 20, 66-5. The last 3 wickets fell quickly, a good run out from Greg and a wicket each for James and Freddie meant that Radlett needed 82 to win.
Abhay and Sam opened for Radlett, Sam was filling in at number 2 and never really looked at ease, he did smash one 4 but departed in the 5 over for 5. Abhay looked well set having played a couple of good shots but got one that kept very low and was bowled for a good looking 15. At this stage James and Freddie looked like they would win the game between them, Freddie recorded another 32 not out, containing 6 well struck 4's, and James made 14 before being caught and bowled for 14, the low bounce never allowed either batsman to look completely in control but by the time they had both departed only 5 was required. Joe came and went and it was left to Maaz to deflect the winning run down to third man.
All in all a comfortable victory for Radlett, however some of the fielding was pretty ropey and a better side may well have punished a 3/4 catches that were put down/missed and at least 2 run outs not accepted. The batsmen must also remember to run the first run hard, this puts pressure on the fielders and at this level a second run is almost always there. In general there was a lack of urgency in throughout the side, it was really an issue during this game, but sterner tests lie ahead.
Managers Comment: Excellent result guys! An emphatic victory against a very good team.
I want to work on our running between the wickets, and hope to spend some of the Sunday sessions working on this. In terms of our general fielding, if we look at teams like Harpenden, we notice how they never take their eye of the ball during a match. Always focused, always walking in with the bowler, and therefore rarely making a fielding error which can and invariably does cost us matches.
