Match report RADLETT WOMEN MARCH ON

On paper this was going to be Radlett's toughest test of the season, but in reality it turned out to be another comprehensive victory for the table topping side. Both Radlett and their opposition, Finchley Gunns II's, had won six Southern League matches and stood 1st and 2nd in Division 1. Radlett were unbeaten while Finchley's only defeat had come in the reverse of this fixture earlier in the season.

In the absence of Hannah Smith, stand-in Radlett skipper Alexis Mannion won the toss and elected to bat on the top pitch at Cobden Hill. Of the two matches on this strip this season Radlett had posted scores of 256-1 and 269-2 while batting first. Mannion was in no mood to change things up.

Openers Anna Harris and Louise Verroken-Jones got off to a watchful start and saw off Finchley's initial attack. However, their first change seamer managed to get a good ball past Verroken-Jones' defence - bowled for 16 with the score 38-1. This brought Mannion to the crease to join Harris.

The pair gradually increased the run-rate in a virtually faultless partnership (just one drop from a tough chance off Mannion's bat). As the overs ticked over the big question was who would reach their century first. Mannion won that particular contest with a flick to deep mid wicket and Harris brought up her ton with a glance to fine leg. They would finish up 117no and 102no respectively with the final total on 257-1.

The tone was set for the Finchley reply with a wicket from the very first ball of the innings. Seamer, Hayley Arrol, had the Finchley captain caught behind trying to pull a shorter ball. While the other opener would carry her bat through the innings wickets fell at the other end at regular intervals.

Mannion had the midas touch with her bowling changes with wickets for her entire attack. Kanchana Gamage bettered her top pitch performance from a fortnight ago to return career best figures of 3-7 while Katie Pankhurst (2-3) picked up her 15th and 16th wickets of the season from a tidy spell late on. The final wicket fell with the Finchley total on just 79 as Radlett ran out winners by 178 runs.

With seven wins from seven completed matches Radlett have their name all but engraved on the Women's Southern League Division 1 champions shield.
