Match report
Despite a career best league innings of 134 by Nick Hampton, Radlett slipped to their 5th league defeat of the season in a high scoring contest.
With minds beginning to focus on the two cup finals Radlett will be participating in this year, their league form where they currently sit in mid table safety has been mixed in recent weeks. The game against Slough was to be no different.
After being inserted on a flat pitch the Radlett openers of Nick Fielden & Nick Hampton set about the Slough bowling with gusto. Both players looked in good form until Fielden was cruelly run out. Hampton drove the ball firmly back to the bowler where the faintest of touches ricocheted the ball on to the stumps leaving Fielden stranded out of his ground.
With Haydn Smith departing for 3 Matt Evans and Hampton took up the attack. The pair shared a superb 157 run partnership with Evans striking an effortless 63. With important contributions from Chaudry (29) and Graham Dill (23). Radlett amassed a mammoth score of 314 from their 66 overs.
In reply Slough came out with all guns blazing and had raced to 87 for 3 from just 13 overs. In an attempt to stem the flow of runs captain Fielden introduced 16 year leg spinner Mark Gray into the attack. Gray making his debut for the first team bowled with assurance and a confidence that belied his years. He fully deserved his wicket of Khan caught by Evans for 46.
However with the Radlett attack unable to stop Bobby Sher compiling another match winning innings of 91 not out . The hosts were able to reach their target with 4 balls remaining.
This weeks league fixture sees Radlett entertain Basingstoke in the final contest of the season. Radlett currently lye in 5th position but are only 4 points ahead of their Hampshire rivals. Should Radlett attain more points than the ‘Stoke in this game they will finish in the top half of the Home Counties Premier League for the first time in the leagues short history.
