Match report On paper, this fixture looked easy, top team facing the bottom, instead it turned out to be anything but easy. Uxbridge fielded a couple of first team players, and having won the toss, decided to field. With Tom Clare gone in the first few overs, Neel and Taj moved the score quickly, with some fantastic shots, until the introduction of spin bowling at both ends. This slowed the scoring and Neel got caught trying to force it. Rikin joined Taj and both managed to keep the rate at 4 x over, until a yes/no call got Tej run out. Enter Oliver 'Shane' Jackson, who the previous day had scored so slowly that most spectators watching, fell asleep, but today he batted superbly, and kept going until the 45th over, with a well deserved 70 NO. Neel, Tej and Riking contributed 30 odd runs each, Brendan done his bit, hitting out knowing that Luca would be in next, and as in previous matches, Luca did not disappoint, scoring quick 26 runs,and with Reece on 7 not out we managed to finish on 225 runs, maybe 20/30 short of what we thought would be a winning total. The Uxbridge inning started badly, with Phil removing the opener with the score on 0, enter first team player (dont know the name and dont want to either) he was caught fair and square from the bowling of Lee, having scored only a few runs, but the umpire did not give him out, and he did not walk! Afer the lucky escape, he went on the rampage, slogging every ball, but the luck was on his side and took Uxbridge on the brink of victory, going at 6 and over. At this stage, Neel, our captain for the day, had tried all of his bowlers, except Harry, as it turned out the unsporty batsman got a skier, and Neel gratefully accepted and took a good catch to get rid of him for the second time, but having done all of the damage, scoring 84 runs in 23 overs. Reece also took an incredible catch on the boundery, getting rid of another damgerous man, but at this point, with 7 batsman still to go, Uxbridge only needed 4 runs x over to win the match. Neel brought himself on to bowl, and with the help of Oliver, Tej and Harry, put the pressure on the batsman to play shots, and the wickets started to fell, some good catches and fielding took Uxbridge back to the original required rate of 5 and than 6 an over. Until the last pair needed 50 runs off 9 overs, and they went for it, getting closer and closer, until with 20 runs needed in 3 overs, the last man was caught by 'juggling' Phil, and the game was deserveley won. This was a difficult match, but the kids came through it with flying colours, they never give up, they all contribute in scoring runs, they field really well, and bowling is excellent, considering that is always shared by all that want to bowl. Luca's keeping is getting better with every match, and today was quite superb giving up only 1 by, and taking 2 stamping and a catch. Man of the match must be Oliver Jacksons for his superb knock, but Neel was not far behind, with his 5 wickets and an impressive captancy debut. This was a really impressive team performance, well done to all the boys, and special thanks to the 2 'oldies', Tom and Brendan.
