Match report
Spinners' Web!"
On a radiant sunny day, stand-in skipper Stuart Browne led Radle© 4th XI to a thrilling face-off against Old Cholmeleians 1st XI. Browne won the toss and chose to bat, giving ageing Michael Clarke and debutant Reuban Hamm the honour of opening the innings. Hamm was quickly sent back to the pavilion, courtesy of the stern Old Cholmeleian umpire. Clarke and the astute Yasir "The Colonel" then took charge, bringing the score up to a modest 20 before being dismissed in rapid succession. Clarke having succumbed to a dolly catch by the square leg fielder, and The Colonel, deceived by a straight one. Then came the turn of the seasoned Michael Yeabsley to step onto the crease with the young prodigy, Coleman. Their partnership was budding beaufully, but fate had other plans. Yeabsley fell vicm to a controversial LBW decision, leaving him as dismayed as a vampire in a garlic farm. But that didn't faze Coleman, who had made the crease his stage, elegantly scoring 82 in a match-saving partnership with Lalith. Together, they provided a much-needed resurgence, weaving a 65-run partnership, which injected life back into Radle©'s innings. Their on-field chemistry was infecous; The pair seemed to communicate with an understanding usually reserved for long-lost brothers. Sadly with six overs remaining, Coleman was caught on the boundary and an avalanche of wickets quickly followed; Ayaan Khokar, Shiv Shah, Alexis Shead and Lalith all fell before the final pairing of Ian Sudbery and Stuart Browne limped Radle© to 138 all out of 39 Overs. Sudbery playing in his first match for three years smashed a huge boundary - the shot of the day - whilst Browne looked on in dismay wishing he had allowed Sudders to bat earlier in the lineup.
Despite Browne’s pessimisc outlook Radle© felt that they had posted a decent target on a slow pitch and were certainly sll in the match. Post-tea, Browne and Reubens Hamm kicked off the bowling a©ack. While Hamm held his own, Browne was dispatched mercilessly. However, his redempon arrived in the form of a superb catch by Ayaan Khokar. The duo of Alexis Shead and Ian Sudbery then shiLed the game's dynamics, with Shead claiming four prized wickets. Shead’s final wicket was the ‘Champagne Moment’ of the match as Yeabsley, prowling the covers like a lion in the Serenge, dove full length to secure what many spectators are already calling the 'Catch of the Season'. Radle© then turned the screws with a sfling spin assault from Coleman (1-26) and Yeabsley (4-20). The Old Cholmeleians batsmen fell like dominoes as the scoreboard pressure increased. Radle© always seemed to hold the upper hand, and Coleman finally bowled their last batsman in the 37th over with 11 runs to spare. It was an excing game which ebbed and flowed but a special menon must go to ‘The Colonel’ for his wicket keeping masterclass that will surely earn him that spot for the rest of the season. While the day's scorecard had many heroes, it was Coleman who danced away with the 'Man of the Match'.
Reacng to the victory, noceably absent skipper Craig Steven-Jennings penned a quick note: "I couldn't be prouder even if I'd taken a hat-trick! Hats off to Yeabsley and Shead, our spin twins. They didn't just turn the ball, they turned the match! It's like they've taken 'spinning a yarn' quite literally and woven a crickeng fairy tale!" Radle© 4th XI are now placed 2nd in the league and travel to Flitwick next Saturday. All spectators welcome. Final Score Radle© CC 4th XI - 138 all out Old Cholmeleians - 127 all out Radle© CC 4th XI won by 11 runs
