THE GAME OF THE DAY THE EMBRYOS BECAME MEN
We all went north to Bedfordshire to face a Flitwick team who traditionally give us a difficult game and are great competitors.
First sight at the lovely Flitwick ground is that there are a number of changes to the Flitwick team and with The Wiz and Abhijay having been plucked for the First team it presents another chance for Triple Threat and Fielder Fielden, as we again prove how strong the colts system is.
Skipper Rose called correctly and had no hesitation on letting the young and the old loose on the Flitwick batsmen.
Sam Pitkin who at Habs hung around for an hour was undone by a ripper from Chippy in the first over and its 1 for 1. Koby nearly follows suit in this first over but it is Ross who gets wicket 2 with a cracker that finds Todd Pitkins edge and skipper Rose snares a good slip catch.
11 overs gone and its 21 for 2
Next ball Koby makes Bodo play too early and Yash makes a very good catch (although he doesn’t drop many) and its 21 for 3. Smith and young Roopchand rebuild slowly and circumspectly as Troy replaces Koby and Ross’s spell ends at 8 overs 2 maidens 2 for 13. Troy is being as miserly as Koby and Ross and Flitwick to be fair were struggling to rotate the strike due to some fantastic fielding led by Yash, Tom and Alex.
Troy is in the middle of a great spell and finally gets his reward thanks to s smart dive forward by Alex as he gets the obdurate young Roopchand (looks a very good prospect). Gurney follows next over as Troy gets an LBW decision and its 60 for 5 after 28 overs.
DSJ replaced Ross and bowled a sensational spell without luck and Matt came on at the nursery end (Ironic name with 5 under 17s in our side) and span a web to get Peters caught by Jonny, Wing LBW and Pateman well held by Troy as he ends with 3 for 20. And after 45 overs its 100 for 8. Ross returns and Troy takes a much easier catch this time and he bowls Smith who has batted for 141 minutes faced 100 balls and held the innings together.
Its hard to say who bowled best as everyone was good and DSJ just needed a little bit of luck. What was impressive was the fact we gave away only 6 boundaries and the fielding led by Yash was fabulous. The energy was brilliant and Matt led the side well with Old man Malde.
After tea Matt and Alex took to the surprisingly green track and Alex got a good delivery which took his off stump out the ground. Will walked to the wicket and he and Matt played serenely looking comfortable and punishing anything loose as we raced to a win after 19.4 overs in 80 minutes. Matt made his 50 in 56 balls and ended 54 not out and Will was left40 not out.
A very satisfying win and what impresses me was that everyone contributed and it makes it hard to select the best 11.
Impressive statistics from Heather Walmsley, Nisha Patel, Tanya Triple Threat and Granny Fielden as they stepped out burning a trench round the field. Ketan Malde and Alan Armitage nearly lapped the ladies but no chance!!!!
Man of the Match Skipper Matthew Rose
TFC Old Man Neel Malde
