Northchurch v Radlett CC 2nd XI on Sat 07 Aug 2021 at 12.00 p.m.
Radlett CC Won by 150 runs

ON a day when Britain was deluged by Inches of rain, Radlett 2 made the trip to the wonderful Northchurch ground driving through hail, snow, wind and rain to be greeted by sunshine on a rainy day at Northchurch
Your correspondent was amongst many who could not believe the game was going ahead.
Matt lost the toss and was extremely happy to do so and Northchurch invited Radlett to bat. We know Northchurch are a good side with some excellent players.
Matt opened with Abhay and Abhay soon returned to the KIndergarten as he edged the widest wide to the keeper.
This brought in the slightly older Chris Arul who started to play some great shots allied with excellent defence as he and Matt took the score to 81 when Matt missed his customary straight one after a very good 33 sorry 27.........
81 after 15 overs is a great start and Neel (I cant attend my brothers stag do as my mate got married) and Chris started accumulating runs and hitting out when necessary and also ran well.
Neel and Chris put on an untroubled 139 until Chris went for a fabulous 114 when he mishit the shots that had previously brought him 6.
Neel then got out in Darren James last over having told everyone to see off the former Radlett bowler. Neel departed at 225 for 4 in the 43rd over.

What followed should have been mayhem but we managed to let Northchurch back into the game as we ended 254 for 9, some 30/35 runs short of where it looked like it should have been.

A fine tea provided by Greggs, Wenzels, Boots, Tesco, Sainsbury, Mummy and other shops was enjoyed whilst I had crisps!!!

Ross allowed DSJ to open the bowling and this proved wise as bowled Randall neck and crop. 10-1 became 11 for 3 as Ross double bagged Meager and Swain, the latter to a stunning one handed catch by Tom Fielden. Liveing and Garraway started to rebuild and Garraway played some of his traditional quality shots until he was undone by Skipper Matt Rose snaring him in the slips off Chippy. This was 31 for 4 and a belief that the game was ours started to build. When Bexson was out on 43 the young pups started to believe anything was possible especially as Rohan nearly walked underneath the catch but stuck an arm up and it stuck!!!!

Northchurch Captain Liveing batted well but had little support as wickets fell regularly and DSJ and The Wiz sorted out the end of the innings and a fantastic victory was saluted. We are lucky that so many Under 16s are able to play at a good standard and all help the team.

Some excellent performances
Chris Arul a brilliant 114
Neel an excellent 54
Matt a good toss to lose a fine 33 oopppss 27 , 3 excellent catches and some good captaincy rushing Abhay through his overs to get to 20.
Triple threat bowled briliantly
Ross was well Jimmy Anderson again
Prabs bowled like a veteran
Alex excelled in the field]
Neel dived like Gary Sprake (ask your parents or grandparents)
Tom Fielden a great catch and some good repartie aimed back at the diggers. Some nearly as good as Eddo Brandes
Despite not bowling Abhijay was excellent in the field

A win that ranks up with the one at Hoddesdon.

We should have made 275/285 and maybe need to understand the way to use the end overs to better effect.
Next week a big game at Potters Bar - I will not be sitting in the score box there

Man of the match Chris Arul
TFC Taking it on the chin and for the team - Abhay Hirani
Moment of the match - Tom Fielden stopping a batsman with his repartie and being compared to an older family member

This was a 9 out ten performance guys.

Signing out for 7 days
