Northwood v Radlett CC 2nd XI on Sat 15 Jun 2019 at 13.00
Radlett CC Won 1 wicket (5 balls left)

Match report A rain affected match saw Radlett chasing a reduced Northwood total of 202 of 47 overs - and a resulting win from the infamous 2's 20 mentality.

On a moist deck, which became wetter over the course of coming on and off several times, Radlett won the toss and set about their fielding innings, with Ross continuing his strong form and clipping off stump in his first over. Tight spells from Ross and Fakir led to the first 10 overs going for only 9 runs and Radlett were on top. Two dropped catches in the slip cordon and another two in the outfield however meant Northwood's top order took advantage of second/third/fourth lives and went about grafting their innings to get to 150 of 35, and looking for a big total.

Radlett were able to constrict them to 214, a total probably 25 under par, thanks to a tight second spell from Troy and Jas the Burglar picking up important wickets from non-wicket taking deliveries, including a stinger held by Adnan at deep mid wicket. Radlett's ground fielding piled on the pressure, with a new found energy in the back 10 which was sometimes lacking so far this season.

2's 20s was the name of the game. Probably not the most ideal batting innings but it proved to work (this time around). At 65 for 4, and Fakir pinging a full toss straight to mid off, Radlett were hoping the rain would be on their side. Although behind the rate, reduced overs would reduce the total. The umpires were adamant to continue the game and only 3 overs were lost.

Freddie played Radlett back in with a measured innings, supported well by Josh and extras. Effective power hitting from Jas looked like we were needing to chase 60 of the final 12, until (perhaps in Jas fashion) managed to get stumped trying to guide the ball down to third man. His thighs held up though.

Boyecy, looking eager to hit the ball out the ground and asking the team which bat he should be using (Pollard's/ Bravo's/Butler's/Kohli's??) crunched a few boundaries down the ground, only to be undone by their opening bowler brought back on for his second spell. Freddie shortly followed in the same over LBW, and Radlett were 180-9, required 25 of 7. Unsure whether anyone had seen Adnan bat, heads were down (but the badgers still at it with rain tactics).

Every ball was assuming to clean up 'the tail', but Ross and Adnan put on a fine 25 run last wicket partnership - easily negotiating with the opening bowlers and rotating strike. Naturally there was a bit of yes and no with the running, but Ross creaming it through the covers and Adnan nurdling through the leg side led us to victory - a superb team effort and momentum we can take through in upcoming games.

A very close and entertaining game, hosted very well by Northwood.

M.O.M: Ross Carpenter
D.O.D: Boyecy (arriving late and changing on the boundary/ his little jig from taking a regulation mid off catch - kept spirits/energy high)
