Chipperfield Clarendon v Radlett CC Sunday 1st XI on Sun 08 Jun 2014 at 1.30 p.m.
Radlett CC Won by 138 runs
Match report
With Abbots having conceded the CVL game, a late friendly was arranged with Chip-Clar
Having had a late drop-out, u12 all-rounder Josh De Caires agreed to play, having been at practice in the morning!
So, 11 players made their way to Chipperfield, on a gloriously sunny day.
Captain Cohen won the toss and immediately elected to bat, with some players, captain included, nursing a hangover!
Randeep Sanghera and John Armitage strode out to the crease looking to be positive from the off and punish any bad deliveries. Johnnie scored a quick 23 before being bowled trying to smash one as far as humanly possible.
This brought Noah Lipschitz, in his first RCC game of the season, to the middle.
Noah and Randeep batted absolutely superbly together and hit it to all parts of the ground. No bowler was safe from the onslaught, wither run-out being the most likely way to break the partnership (they tried to run each other out on more than one occasion!).
Randeep was the first to bring up his fifty, his first since signing for Radlett this winter, followed quickly by Noah doing the same.
They upped the already good tempo and continued to find the boundary as well as push for singles.
Randeep was bowled, playing a tired shot following a long innings.
Alex Cook, fresh from a century against the same opposition the previous day, joined Noah and immediately found his range again, hitting a swift 40*.
Noah was out LBW for a superb 116. This was an innings of 360 degree shots, string against all types of bowling.
12 year old Middlesex player Josh de Caires joined Alex for the final couple of overs and looked classy both through the covers and on the leg-side, to finish on 8*, 1x4.
A very good total of 269 was scored, exceeding captain Cohen's hopes of 240-250.
What followed was the best 30 minutes of any match - a Chipperfield Clarendon tea! Honestly, this tea is simply sensational!
After tea, a very spin-heavy Radlett attack went out. Dan Foster, bowling seam rather than his usual spin, and John Armitage, not donning the gloves, opened up.
CCCC opened up with their best batter, who had smashed a 50 ball unbeaten century the previous day. He continued in the same vein in this game, punishing anything and everything. At the other end, runs were very slow. Foz quickly turned back to his spin to regain control, while Armitage was replaced after 6 overs by Mick Lee.
Wickets fell regularly, but Mepham was still there and smashing it round the park. After Foz finished his spell, Colonel was brought on for his bowl of the season and immediately found significant turn. He bowled with good control and deserved all 3 of his wickets.
Mick was replaced by Josh de Caires who bowled beautifully. Bowled with control and at good pace. He cleaned up Mepham for 71 (108-7!) with an absolute gem. 4 overs at an economy of 1.5, really tells its own story. A superb young cricketer with great prospects!
After Josh, Shane & Randeep bowled their off-spin, picking up wickets - with Shane at one point bowling to a 9-0 off-side field to a left handed bat!
A great victory, an enjoyable day and good fun had by all (except Fozzy I suspect!)
