Radlett CC Women's XI v Hastings on Sun 03 Aug 2014 at 1:00 pm
Radlett CC Won by 206 runs

Match report After a three week break due to the county fixture program the Radlett Women's XI were back in Southern League action on Sunday. Their opponents were bottom of the table Hastings and the match proved to be as mismatched as the league table suggested.

Skipper, Alexis Mannion, won the toss and had no hesitation in choosing to bat, with the intention of running up a big total. This plan looked to be in some jeopardy following the loss of both openers within the first 5 overs. First Mannion was caught for 8 off the bowling of Beth Harvey, then Cath McNeill (7) joined her in the pavilion during Harvey's next over following a sharp caught and bowled.

At 28-2 Radlett needed to rebuild their innings with the new pairing of Sian Ruck and Kathy Morley, and over the course of the next 10 overs they did this in some style. Morley was the chief aggressor during the 87 run partnership, hitting 9 fours as she compiled her first Southern League half century off only 38 balls. Sadly having added just one more run she became the third batsman to be caught in the field. The total now on 115 for 3.

Ruck was by now well set at the crease and found another willing partner in Hayley Arrol (20) as another 53 runs were added to the total before the latter was bowled by Sophie Allen. Anje Lague also enjoyed her time out in the middle and was approaching a second Radlett half century before falling LBW three runs short of the individual milestone and a single run short of a century partnership. At this time New Zealand international, Ruck, was not out on 99. A quick single from new bat Chloe Frame brought Ruck back on strike and she duly brought up her first ever three figure score with a single of her own. Her century came off 102 balls and included 12 fours. With Frame (12*) she added another 37 runs to the team total without further loss as the innings closed on 304 for 5 from their 45 overs - the second highest innings total in the history of Women's cricket at Radlett.

Ruck would finish her majestic innings on 121 not out off 118 balls, and including 15 boundaries.

In reply Hastings safely navigated the first 5 overs before Hayley Arrol (1-24) got her revenge on opener, Sophie Allen, by removing her middle stump. A solid 40 run partnership then developed between captain, Natasha Maharaj-Newman, and Beth Harvey taking the away side to 53 for 1 at the end of the 14th over. Although falling well behind the required run rate they had at least put themselves in a position to make a game of it.

However, having recovered from her batting exploits left-arm seamer, Ruck, came on to bowl and took 2 wickets in her first 2 overs, including that of the opposition captain to effectively kill the game. She was also instrumental in the run-out of Hollie Pooke for a duck, and a wicket for off-spinner Lorraine Hartley (1-27) reduced Hastings to 88 for 5 after 27 overs.

It was left to Chloe Frame, the destroyer of batting tails, to add the final coup-de-grace to proceedings. In her third over she trapped Katie Allen leg before and proceeded to clean bowl the next two bats in consecutive balls as she completed a first hat-trick in Radlett colours. In her fourth over she added a fourth wicket to finish with figures of 4-2 from 3.4 overs as Hastings collapsed to 98 all out - a full 206 runs behind.

As the one-sided match came to an end news filtered through that the Women's XI squad's winning run had come to an end following defeat for the North London League side away at Ickenham. However, the Southern League streak continues, currently standing at thirteen consecutive victories and they have a firm stranglehold at the top of the Championship division. They will look to continue the run on Sunday as St Lawrence & Highland Court come to Cobden Hill.
