Match report
NORTH LONDON LEAGUE TWENTY20 CUP - SEMI FINAL - RADLETT PROGRESS
On paper the draw for the North London League T20 Cup semi final had been rather unkind to both teams. Hampstead (champions of Division A) were drawn against Radlett (champions of Division B). Could this be the day when the all-conquering Radlett Women's squad would finally meet their match?
Having won the toss skipper, Alexis Mannion, had no doubts about wanting to bat first and set a formidable target. Mannion walked out to the crease with opening partner, Kathy Morley, and proceeded to do precisely that. Despite a pitch offering variable bounce the pair were quickly onto the front foot and finding the gaps in the field. Together they moved into the 40s, and Mannion brought up her half century shortly afterwards. Unfortunately Morley was unable to join her - bowled for 49 in the 14th over.
From here Mannion kicked on and raced toward three figures in belligerent style. The Hampstead bowlers simply had no answer to her aggressive stroke-play. It took just 55 balls for Mannion to bring up her fifth century of the season and she finished on 109 not out from only 58 deliveries. A superb achievement which included 15 fours and 2 sixes. The final innings total of 169 for 2 would be incredibly hard for the opposition to chase.
Needing to score at 8.5 runs per over Hampstead were under considerable scoreboard pressure from the off, and it showed. They lost two early wickets to Abbie Sullivan's (2-3) sustained spell of accurate seam bowling and this set the tone for the rest of their innings. All six of the Radlett bowlers used by Mannion got in on the wicket taking action, none more so than Anje Lague (4-6) - sent in to clean up the tail and doing her job to perfection. Hampstead were dismissed for just 71 in 17.1 overs - 108 runs short of their target - a huge margin for a T20 match.
The result put Radlett through to the afternoon final, and sent a strong statement of intent to the rest of the North London League Division A teams ahead of the 2014 season.
