Radlett CC Won
Match report
Radlett travelled to Preston on the 5th of August to play a chess valley 3rd XI match. We lost the toss and fielded first on a hot and humid afternoon, where fielding and bowling were always going to be difficult. Phil Simmons and Matt Johnson opened the bowling, and were dangerous despite being slightly erratic, with Phil picking up 2 early wickets with a tight leg stump line which constantly troubled the wicketkeeper, Matt Soffair and Matt Johnson being unlucky to go wicket less. A partnership of 113 then ensued, with Radlett becoming increasingly weary in the field until Ollie Jackson picked up a wicket partly thanks to a fine one handed catch by Phil.Hemal Malde had a good 6 over spell for 25 runs. However, Preston continued to score well at just over 5 an over. Captain Shamit Nathwani & spinner Luca Guerrini bowled tidily for a while. When Preston accelerated & looked as though a very big score was likely the opening bowlers returned to slow down the scoring rate & also take wickets. Phil ended on 4 wickets,7 in total this week end.
Preston ended on 244-6. This would be a challenging score & a tough target for our young team.
. In reply, Radlett started brightly with Basil and Hemal scoring quickly, however, we then lost 3 wickets without scoring any runs to be left on 27-3. Then Bhavin fell shortly after to leave Radlett on 52-4.Radlett were in trouble. However Kailash and Matt Soffair rolled back the years to score a rapid partnership of 82, before Matt fell bowled round his legs for 47 – village. Kailash continued to score quickly, hitting the ball extremely hard, well supported by Shamit (38no) until Kailash was caught well at cow corner on 99. Luca entered to polish off the final runs and finish with 18no, to complete an excellent run chase with 4 overs to spare. Our middle batters all showed their experience of senior cricket, looking assured in the run chase. This victory keeps Radlett top of the league
