Match report
RADLETT EARN PLACE IN HERTS CUP FINAL
The stage for this encounter was a deteriorating Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club wicket – a real dust bowl. With plenty of spin, variable bounce and the pressure of the semi final runs should have been hard to come by.
This was the case early on as Crawford and Toor set about building a total for the visitors. The partnership didn’t last long however, Toor fell foul of the classic beamer, beamer, yorker strategy and was removed cheaply LBW.
Crawford (182*) and McLean (124) demolished the Hemel bowlers. Disciplined, controlled, devastating hitting from the duo completely eradicated any hope the Hemel faithful might have held of taking anything from the game as Radlett posted a total of 329. Crawford added, “it was a great day for me personally and Radlett Cricket Club. It’s a great effort making the Cup Final and I am confident we have the ability to take it all the way.”
This achievement was put into context as Hemel were bowled out for just 99. Browne (4-24) and Creese (6-23) did the damage – both were unplayable. The dusty and uneven wicket may have been intended to level the playing field between miss-matched sides; it did the opposite. Creese commented, “The batters put us in an excellent position from the start so, as a bowling unit we had scoreboard pressure from ball one. A quick, aggressive opening spell by Chad, and then Brownie tying up one end meant Hemel had to play their shots to keep up with the rate. I think I benefited from this on a turning wicket as it was not an easy surface to play spin and force the run rate. It was a great all round team performance and hopefully we will take this form into the final.”
Sawbridgeworth posses some excellent players and have enjoyed an equally dominant cup run, the final is eagerly anticipated by all.
