Radlett CC 1st XI v Hoddesdon on Sat 08 Jun 2013 at 11:30 am
Radlett CC Won By 250 runs
Match report
This week league leaders Radlett welcomed a dangerous Hoddesdon side Cobden Hill.
The sun was shining, the deck was flat and the home side had scored heavily on every occasion this season. Contrary to the advice of long standing groundsman, David Searle the Hoddesdon skipper elected to bowl first.
The familiar sight of Kabir Toor and Fraser Crawford raising their bats aloft in celebration soon followed as they enjoyed an opening stand of over 200. Crawford bludgeoned his way to a third century of the season before the innings half way point – a remarkable achievement. Toor crafted an excellent 76 before a sizzling cover drive was plucked out of the sky by an excellent catch.
Hoddesdon clawed their way back into the game dismissing Toor and Burger in quick succession with smart catches. However, this only made way for skipper McLean to join the party with a quick-fire 27.
The stage was set for a big finish. Rob Clements combined with 16 year old prodigy Joe Cook to guide the home side to an imperious first innings score. Clements, best known for building an innings at the top of the order, was in for a good time – not a long time. The ground was just too small as he scythed six boundaries on his way to 38. At the other end, Cook was in cruise control as he compiled a classy 41 on home debut.
Chasing 361 was always going to be a tough ask for Hoddesdon. They came out fighting but really had no answer to the flight and guile of Stewart Browne, who bowled 7 maidens and took 4 for 13 in his opening spell.
After such a slow start the game morphed into a dress rehearsal for the timed format that will begin next week. Hoddesdon sought to see out their overs whilst Radlett set about the task of taking all ten wickets.
Rob Clements and Chad Barrett duly obliged with a wicket each before Crawford, the star of the day, swept up the tail with four quick wickets to bowl the visitors out for 111 in 37 overs. Radlett won by 250 runs.
