Match report 2nd XI vs Preston CC Match Report

In the 3rd league game of the season, Radlett 2s secured their second win in an extraordinary match up in North Hertfordshire.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, skipper Dan 'Phys-Foz' Foster was regretting that decision, and cricket as a whole, when the scoreboard read 15-5! (Dave Robinson, Nick Fielden & Jason Lewis all getting 0, Andre Sharma 1 & Johnnie Armitage 4). It was at this point, skipper Foster said to Armitage and Dan Cohen that 'if we win today, I'll buy everyone 5 JägerBombs!'.

Cue an incredible turn of events! 15 year old Joe 'Away Only' Cooke produced a quite sensational innings, really showing his class and potential. Putting on partnerships with Robin Willis (1), who went to a ridiculous catch at gully, Sim Cohen (10), Neil Lederman (4) and Foster (7), Joe managed to score 84 out of our 129 runs without ever looking like he was in danger. It took a superb caught and bowled to remove Joe.

This turned out to be an even better knock than we thought at the time.

Following a pleasant tea, Radlett took to the field to try and bowl Preston out. What followed was something I'm still in disbelief about.

Neil Lederman, bowling the first over of a match for a long time, bowled an almost perfect spell of swing bowling (aside from the chest high beamer in the middle of his spell).

Hooping the ball round corners with his left arm over bowling, the Preston batters simply couldn't play Lederman (6 bowled, 2 LBW). He bowled brilliantly in tandem with skipper Foster (2-10) and they ended up bowling Preston out for a total of 58 with the first ball of the 27th over.

I'm struggling to put into words a worthy description of Neil's bowling, but I think the figures (13.1-4-24-8) say enough themselves!

This was an incredible day of cricket which leaves captain Foster trying to find the cheapest place in Hertfordshire to buy a bottle of Jäger and a case of Red Bull!

MOM was very tough for this game with Joe's 84 being the highest score of the day by some 70 runs! However, it was decided that MOM goes to Neil Lederman for his superb spell of bowling, the likes of which he will never reproduce!

TFC was equally difficult, but for the reverse reasons. A number of contenders were discussed, Fielden, Willis and Robinson. However, Jason Lewis collects this award for his combined horror show (5th ball duck and 1 over for 7 runs!).

Captain Foster was once again short with his post-'tach comments saying: "I'm buzzing to get another win under the belt, serious efforts from Neil Lederman and Joe Cooke and top fielding from the lads"

Another massive thank you to Bill Marshall for scoring once again and ensuring everyone's expensive belongings were kept safe!

We move onwards to next week's home game (to be played on the bottom ground) where we look to secure our first home win of the season!
