Letchworth v Radlett CC Women's Super 8's on Sun 21 Apr 2013 at 1:00 pm
Radlett CC Won by 87 runs
Match report
The team embarked on their first WSCL game of the season with an away match against local rivals Letchworth. Captain Hayley Arrol lost the toss and Letchworth opted to field first. Radlett opened the batting with Hannah Smith and Chloe Jackson, but unfortunately Hannah Smith got out early on. Alexis Mannion came in at number three and started to build a partnership with Chloe Jckson, however when looking set she top edged a sweep and got caught. Katie Pankhurst then joined Chloe at the wicket and played some great shots before getting bowled for 6. This brought Anje Lague to the crease and Chloe and Anje put on a great partnership of 110 run which was ended when Anje was adjudged (dubiously) to be LBW after scoring a valuable 39. In the search of quick runs Chloe Jackson was bowled for a magnificent 94 which held the innings together. Radlett ended up on 202 for 5 after 45 overs with Hayley Arrol and Kathy Morley unbeaten on 11 and 6 respectively.
Faced with such a daunting total Letchworth came out to bat and after losing the early wicket of Cheppey who was bowled by Anje Lague for 6 they decided to try and see out their 45 overs. Julie Clarke and Emma Cane put on a good partnership of 91 before Clarke was bowled by Alexis Mannion for a well made 56. Radlett then claimed 4 wickets in quick succession sparking hopes of bowling Letchworth out, however Cane and Lenton kept the bowlers at bay to see out the 45 overs and finishing on 115 for 6 giving Radlett an 87 run win to start their season off with.
A special mention must go to captain Hayley Arrol who led the team fantastically well despite only having 9 players due to early season availability!
