Northwood II v Radlett CC 3rd XI on Sat 09 Jun 2012 at 13:00
Radlett CC Won By 1 wicket

Match report Radlett travelled to Northwood, high on confidence after a solid performance and convincing win last week. The wicket was wet and soft from the week’s wet conditions so when the Northwood captain won the toss and elected to bat it was a bit of a surprise.

Radlett started slow and were sloppy in the first 10 overs with Northwood reaching 40-0, most of which were extras. Harry Will struggled to settle in to a rhythm whilst Olly Robertson was slowly doing what he does best and kept hitting good areas. After 10 overs captain Mike Crocker came on and instantly got a break through trapping the batsmen lbw from his second ball.

Crocker and Robertson both started to tighten things up and Radlett got on top of the game. At 27 overs Northwood were 80-4 with Crocker picking up the 4, one of which was a great catch from Matt Soffair fielding close on the drive. On came Prabhu Arumugan with his off spin and although he found it tough, picked up a wicket. Crocker picked up his 5th and took a blow after 16 overs 5-38. The ever reliable Robertson came back on and took 2 with Simon Gray getting 2 as well with his seamers. Northwood were all for 163 after 50 overs.

Radlett felt as though this was a reachable target as the line up was exceptionally strong, batting all the way to 11. However, it wasn't to be as comfortable as they imagined as player after player simply gave their wickets away to some very tight bowling, especially from Northwood’s left arm spinner. This irresponsible shot selection and lack of batting composure left Radlett on 100-8, more than 60 runs short with only Simon Gray digging in, showing some superb composure and some excellent batting skills. Arumugan came in at 10, rode his luck and with some good shots saw Radlett closing in on the 163 required. He eventually fell lbw with the score at 130, still 33 short. Last man Robertson then played a gutsy innings, giving Gray the strike whilst putting the bad balls away himself. At 159-9 it was Robertson who struck a huge 6 to win the game.

It was a massive and much needed win for Radlett but the team knows there is much to improve on the batting front if promotion is going to be achieved.
