Northwood III v Radlett CC 5th XI on Sat 28 May 2011 at 1:00
Radlett CC Won by 83 runs
Match report
A brilliant century by veteran Andy Griffiths set Radlett V up for an 83-run win over Northwood III at Merchant Taylors School
This was Lee Greenland's second Division 10 success as captain in a row, and it was well deserved, the end coming with more than five overs to spare. Three wins in five games took Radlett up behind the leading pack in a day of surprise results.
Radlett made an uncertain start, with Samay Shah, 15, running himself out in the second over going for an optimistic second run and Satish Pandey being castled as a stand-in opener. Griffiths and Rob Millard steadied the innings and Griffiths took the attack to his opponents with solid drives and pulls, blasting 20 fours.
Griffiths and Greenland, both batsmen looking in fine form, added 95 in 12 overs for the fifth wicket. Griffiths was finally bowled through a tired drive for 113 in the 33rd over with 190 already on the board. Greenland miscued to mid-off with a fifty in his sights as three wickets fell in three overs before Simeon Cohen and Mihir Kapadia took heavy toll on an understandably dispirited attack in a rapid unbroken stand of 61, bringing up the declaration in only 46 overs.
Northwood never looked like challenging such a massive total, even with 54 overs allowed, and wickets fell regularly, which rather flattered some wayward bowling. Nevertheless all catches were held -- unlike the previous week -- and Pandey's leg-spin carved through the middle order, though he tended to over-elaborate his variations, and the tail lasted longer than they should have done.
Increased availability has led to stronger squads and more competition in the club, so the fifths look capable of continuing their climb up the table.
