Alexandra Park v Radlett CC 2nd XI on Sun 31 Jul 2005 at
Radlett CC Lost 8 Wkts

Match report On a miserable and overcast day Radlett trekked down to the magnificent stately home of Alexandra Park, in a Chess Valley league game.

A young AP side was on view with Mike Dexter adding experience, to the 6 YP's playing. 1st team availability had taken out some regular players.

Captain Brian Dummer won the toss and decided to bat. This soon looked the wrong decision as the wet pitch made the AP Terror Track come back with Kailesh and Mike hardly being able to get the bat on the ball. After 8 overs the score was 7. Kailesh got a beauty that zipped off the surface and Mike got a skidder that was hitting all 3 as Mike played the hook shot!!! Despite Cilla getting a well made 37 the innings never really got going until Brian came in and hit a superb 65* with wonderful marshalling of the young tail (Daniel Cohen, Keiran Collopy and John Mansell). Indeed Daniel stayed around long enough displaying a broad defensive bat with soft hands to allow Brian to progress from 30 to 60. Well played son!!!! he even scored a lovely 4 off former Sri Lankan under 19 player Thariq Mohammed. Hemal Malde also looked promising and played very straight.

Simon Gray and Robbie Crocker looked good until they got out and Vishal Patel showed plenty of promise if only he could play more regularly. 174 was always going to be hard against Australia C (AP had 6 yes 6 Aussies playing - with the only English voices belonging to my old mates Tony Wickeramasinghe and Amit Bose!!!!

AP started off as if drinking time was valuable and won in a canter with their Aussie number 3 (Ryan Larzon) hitting 3 of the biggest 6's off Robbie Crocker I have seen for a while. Their overseas star Andrew Jorgensen (Waverley CC) hit 60 before falling in the penultimate over when he tried to smash Daniel out of N22 but over balanced and Kailesh had the bails off faster then the eye could see. (Lee said it should have been a wide!!) This was after the whole of the AP side stood at the pavilion steps chanting for Daniel to bowl!!!

Overall a disappointing result but a number of YP's will have become better players for this game. John Mansell bowled well and looks promising, Vishal should play more, Kailesh is a good player, Keiran bowled well and maintained a good pace, Hemal batted straight and bowled well against an onslaught and never panicked, indeed nearly took a fabulous caught and bowled. Brian realised why he bowls pace! Robbie Crocker bowled really well without luck and it is fair to say with more senior cricketeres would have had a couple more wickets.

1 missing but nepotism forbids me from saying how well Daniel batted and bowled. He did however move majestically from long off to deep square leg every over (Well done Brian for trying to get him fit)

Thanks must go to Lee for his fabulously neat and incredibly accurate scoring.

Overall a fabulous day played against lovely opponents. We need to get better availability in this league so only 3 YP's need to play as this would produce a better game for all concerned.

One minor point - The bar stayed open late, I drank in it whilst everyone else went off. We cannot moan about people not staying on in our bar if we dont reciprocate
