Radlett CC 1st XI v Potters Bar on Sat 23 Jul 2005 at 11:30
Radlett CC Lost 4 wickets
Match report
A bold declaration failed to lead to a Radlett victory as Potters Bar recovered from their recent dip in form to record a hard earned victory.
Losing the toss meant Radlett had to bat first against good bowling; by Len Cooper in particular. Both openers Nick Fielden and Nick Hampton got starts but fell to excellent catches.
Daniel Chippeck promoted to number three in the absence of Rob Smith set about his task with determination and skill. First he consolidated the innings to a position of strength then built on his early work with sweetly struck shots all around the ground. He found regular boundaries and his run a ball innings of 115 was a testament to strength of mind and purposeful shot making. His support came from Shane Burger who made 83 not out without offering a chance. This innings was slightly better than a run a ball and when Brendan Hutchings dispatched the last 3 balls of the 50th over for 4,4 and 6 captain Hayden Smith called the batsmen off giving Potters Bar 60 overs to chase 264-3.
Excellent opening batting by Palmer and Breeze gave the Potters Bar innings impetus. They both reached 50 and set the platform for what would be a good win.
Radlett’s bowlers found the breakthrough hard to come by. David Hegarty bowled another good spell and was rewarded with the first wicket of Breeze. Graham Dill picked up Palmer and Radlett had an opening. More wickets fell, Hutchings took two exceptional catches in the deep, but Potters Bars openers had left the run rate manageable. Despite some pressure cricket from Radlett, victory was earned with 8 balls to spare in the 59th over.
Positive Radlett cricket left them with 10 points but not the win. Credit must go to Potters Bar who chased down the total with positive batting of their own.
