I have just received the dreadful news from Simon Randall that his father Charlie has died this morning after falling ill with pneumonia only two days ago.
Charlie, as a Vice President, has been an ever-present and loyal member of our club since the mid 1960's as a right hand bat and slow left arm bowler. He was a regular 1st XI player for many years and played in all the XI's over the years, including in his later playing days a period as captain of the 5th XI to help towards introducing many of our junior players into senior cricket.
As a sports journalist, he started at the Herts Advertiser and became the Football reporter for the Daily Telegraph. Amongst many other interests, he was a member at both Tabard RFC and Porter's Park GC, and the President of the HAC football club.
We pass our sincere condolences to Kate, Simon and family at this most difficult time; and I will let you know about further arrangements when they are known.
