In case you have not heard, I am very sorry to announce that Nick Franklin died recently. He was around 12 to 14 years old when he first appeared at the club, taking on the role of the first team scorer. As time went by and he was old enough, he helped behind the bar and took on, in particular, the 6.00 pm opening time on Saturdays, having learnt from his father who had the job before him. He wasn't a player, but did once start a social side giving the non-cricketing members the opportunity to play a friendly 20 over game (obviously a man ahead of his time) on a Friday evening. For years he was a regular social supporter of the club, along with his Jack Russell "Stumpy" wearing his personal club tie, and in those days spent as much time in the old pavilion as outside, and occasionally would venture onto the outfield! Nick was also one of the key movers responsible for starting the Winter Lunches, now a regular date in our winter diaries.
We pass on our sincere condolences to Nick's family and his close friends.
His funeral is on Monday 16th December at 2.20 pm at West Herts Crematorium, and will be followed by a reception at our club.
