Radlett CC Women & Girls v Guildford on Mon 31 Aug 2009 at 1.15 p.m.
Radlett CC Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Returning to Cobden Hill and returning to the 11aside format, the Radlett Women had high spirits and hopes for their final Women’s’ Southern League match of the season. Captain VJ can’t quite remember if she won the toss or not, but under the cloud cover, the team took the field- strike bowler Haria with an evil glint in her eye. Umpire Dan Cohen seemed overly prepared for a young man of his age- not that we judge at this institute…… Coach Ruan watched eagerly from the boundary, minus the army of mini people (!!!). It wasn’t long before Haria’s evil glint morphed into a terrifying game face as she claimed the first wicket after some regulation catching practice to Clair B-M at point. Motivational speakers Verroken and Clifford brighten spirits during the team talk, to such an extent that the sun made an appearance- so much for tactical cloud cover!! However Haria continued to be a demon with the ball and sent Guildford’s number 3 back first ball. The Radlett women kept their fielding water tight and attacking as they welcomed Guildford’s number 4 to the crease- it was the 3 over....!! Together Openers Davis and Haria basked in the sunshine at Cobden Hill, knowing their bowling figurers would be phenomenal and never letting a batsman settle- Gerry picking a well deserved wicket in her 5th over.
Changing the bowling attack to the accuracy of Verroken and spin of Clifford it became increasingly clear that Captain VJ does in fact have a brain- who’d have thought?! Umpire Cohen could only enjoy the women’s general banter, and their general greatness as the wickets kept falling at regular intervals!! Clifford continued to bowl well, the short boundary not affecting her , wicket after wicket. Kay Gamage stepped up to the plate and showed of how she can swing the ball both ways- show off!! Demolishing Guildford’s number 2’s stumps, Gamage had brought the break through that proved fatal. Clearly feeling the pressure, Guildford’s lower order quickly succumbed to bowlers Haria and Hampton. It was a “cracking” effort in the field, the final total being 91 All Out. A real team effort, Haria and Clifford claiming 3 wickets apiece, Keeper VJ with 3 catches and even less byes, everybody left the field knowing they had achieved and contributed in one way or another.
Tea was delicious- thank you to mummy Hampton!!!
Openers VJ and Clair B-M went to war. VJ not wanting to stick around, played down the wrong line and got bowled- bringing resident KP, Cath McNeil to the crease. Clair and Cath battled on, until opener Clair unfortunately was triggered- not by Dan though- so he gets some brownie points. Together , great friends Gerry and Cath made light work of the task ahead and chased down Guildford’s total in 19 overs.
Radlett Women had brought about their first 40over win, in terrific style! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, everybody achieved and contributed in one way or another- long may this continue into next season!!! A Radlett Women’s game wouldn’t be a Radlett Women’s game without some silly sausage saying something stupid- Ruan has to take the prize this week with his general banter towards Piya. It is fun to laugh at the expense of others. Close second to Dan Cohen, just because he is a little bit “special”. Well done to all :D
The author of this report would like to apologise for any bad spelling or grammatical mistakes- she doesn't have a HABS education and only scrapped an A at GCSE (O-Level) english ;)
