Radlett CC Sunday III v Harpenden on Sun 09 Aug 2009 at 1.00 p.m.
Radlett CC Won by 2 wickets

Match report On a sunny and warm day, only a few fortunate speactators, witnessed a great match between 2 very different sides, Harpenden fielding a team of old pros, and Radlett a team of young pretenders. Harpenden won the toss and decided to bat, hoping for a competitive score, that would put the kids under pressure to match. However for the first 20 overs, the scoring hardly reached 3 and over, and Harpenden were under pressure, having already lost 4 wickets, debutant Hussain was the pick of the bowlers, and very unlucky to pick up only 1 wicket. The second half of Harpenden inning was quite different, Tom Capello and Mike Cooper scored freely, and put on 92 runs for the 5th wicket, it took 2 great catches , by Oliver and Luca, to get rid of them, only 1 more wicket fell, and they fionished on 202 for 6. If scoring at 5 and over was not difficult enough, the Radlett inning could not have started worse, old and wise pro Garnett clean bowled Reece, Marcus and Riking in his first 3 overs with some great deliveries, and with the score on 10 for 3, Oliver and Luca steadied the ship and put on around 50 runs before Luca was caught, playing a defensive shot !!
Our captain Shamit arrived at the crease, short of runs and probably not too confident, but he played a great inning and with Oliver, who by now was injured and needed a runner, they put on a partnership that put us back in the running, Oliver was bowled on 33, and Asad joined Shamit and the two of them really went after the Harpenden bowlers, at this point the match was still in the balance, and when Shgamit was bowled, having score 71 runs from 71 deliveries, Phil joined the fun and scored a quick 13 runs, before himself getting bowled. With 22 runs needed in the last 3 overs, Lee finally joined Asad, and did what was needed, 3 great shots for 4, the last one to win the match, coming with 3 balls to spare. A great end to a great match, Harpendedn played a good match, and can consider themleves unlucky not to have won. But the day belongs to captain Shamit, a great knock under massive pressure, Asad was not far behind, in his first game he was outstanding with ball and bat, one last mention to Lee that put the finishing touches to a good performance, and thanks to Bernie once again for scoring and supporting the kids in any way he can, he will be missed in the next few weeks.
