Match report On a glorious afternoon Radlett were fortunate to play on the top pitch ideal for batting. Brendan Jones won the toss and chose to bat.
The openers, Reece Egerton and Josh Charles, put on a 55 run opening partnership before Reece was LBW in the 14th over. Josh was joined by Tej Malde and they were scoring at about 7 runs an over before Josh was caught just short of his fifty. Tej and Rikin Shah continued their recent rich vein of form and their partnership realized 160 runs in 17 overs., being pivotal in winning Radlett the match. The remaining batters went in to try and get quick runs and we sacrificed some wickets as a consequence, Harry Will scored 11 and Lee Greenland was unbeaten on 17. The total of 294 was a big total for Capital to reach, especially as we had a decent bowling attack.
Capital did respond positively scoring at 5 runs an over from the start of their innings. Tome Blazevski got 2 wickets in his opening spell whilst Yasir looked very sharp at the other end, showing good variation too. The only problem was generally too many wides. We gave away 40 runs in extras, 31 in wides in the whole innings. When their opener was dismissed for 33 by Rikin’s first ball we thought we would be on top, especially with Paras Shah being so miserly at the other end, bowling 3 maidens in his opening spell.
However Capital put on an 88 run partnership in good time and were in with a chance. Yasir returned to bowl and a run out ensued. The captain was then bowled and from then on, despite some spirited shots including a couple of sixes, the match was always Radlett’s.
Harry Will took 2 wickets as did dad David. Josh Charles took 2 sharp stumpings and Capital were bowled out in the penultimate over, 37 runs short.
