Radlett CC Won by 74 runs
Match report
Burger relishes the chance to let the kids shine
The Sunday 3’s played a friendly against Stevenage Sunday 3rds on the top pitch at Radlett. Other than Captain Shane, the oldest player in the side was 17 years and 4 months old with the youngest being 13 years and 7 months.
Stevenage 3rds came to the Hill and a 40 over game was agreed between the two captains. Shane won the toss and opted to bat.
Openers Josh Charles and Rhys Jenkins started brightly cutting anything short and a partnership of 51 was brought up before Rhys was run out (this would become an endearing message during the day)
Olly Jackson (jnr) looked in good form until spooning a return catch to possibly the slowest bowler ever to have bowled on the hallowed top pitch, Stevenage’s Barton. This brought the Brother Charles’ together and Ben went about slashing and pulling anything short to the boundary as he tried to catch up Josh. Josh made a well deserved maiden 50 and was promptly retired, in the spirit of the game.
Ben hammered a very fast 33 before he was RUN OUT. Rikin Shah enhanced his growing reputation with a lovely 45, although he did RUN OUT Daniel Cohen!!!! Rikin then decided to get himself RUN OUT 5 shy of a well deserved 50.
Lee Greenland bashed 25 quick runs at the end and is turning into a very good cricketer. Simeon came in and tried to hit one over the top and went home with the DUCK TIE. Young Harry Will and Lee steered Radlett to 210 –8 in 40 overs.
Stevenage’s fielding in the main was good and brilliant when young Nathan Derrick was involved.
Tea was enjoyed and savoured and Shane then cajoled his boys into the field rather than allowing them to watch the Manchester derby.
Daniel Cohen and Rikin opened and Daniel was a little bit too sharp for the Stevenage boys and got rid of both openers, one bowled and one from a fine slip catch from Captain Burger.
Shmeel Ahmed then got rid of his name sake from Stevenage, with the aid of a brilliant catch (so he tells me) by Simeon Cohen. Shane gave 7 bowlers a chance and Lee Greenland took two wickets, Sham got 2, Simeon one with the aid of a fantastic stumping by Josh, which had followed a little plan hatched by Shane to get rid of the young, but extremely tall and powerful Ian Fortune, for a well made and hard hid 27. He kept hitting straight and I like that in a young cricketer.
Stevenage were never able to keep up with the run rate, thanks to Daniel and Rikin and the Radlett fielding was a joy to behold. Harry Will bowled a nice spell and looks a good young prospect.
The innings ended when Rikin Shah took his first catch in 5 and a half years!! To earn Lee his second wicket.
Overall a well deserved win over a friendly and decent team, who also played the game in the right spirit. Thank you Stevenage.
Man of the Match as awarded by Shane - Josh Charles
