Radlett CC 5th XI v Frogmore on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 1.30 p.m.
Match was Drawn Rain
Match report
Ender Tahsin, the best Turkish Cypriot in the club, provided the highlight of a fluctuating day for Radlett V against Frogmore when he dived along the boundary's edge to turn a massive straight drive into a catch, but this interesting Division 11 match was eventually cut short by the day's torrential storms.
The rain ruined a potential grandstand finish, with Radlett needing 103 for victory with 19 overs left on this fast-scoring ground. But having lost four wickets, it was still anybody's game.
Tahsin ran round from long-off to take a marvellous catch with both hands just before a shot by former Radlett player Duncan Fraser against Simeon Cohen dropped in front of the sightscreen for a seemingly certain boundary. For a moment it looked as though there would be a gruesome collision, but Ash Hussain, similarly homing in from long-on, checked just in time to enable Tahsin to complete a moment of glory that one hopes he will remember for the rest of his life.
Fraser's departure meant that Frogmore slipped to 113 for six and 143 for eight, which looked like justifying Charlie Randall's decision to put them in to bat, but the tail wagged and 210 represented a handy revival. Good diving catches in the middle by Ben Martin and Randall kept the wickets falling steadily, and Radlett's ground fielding held up well in the heat.
Hussain produced a challenging new-ball spell, though his return with the older ball proved costly, and Randall's final two overs went for more than 20, spoiling his final figures of 4-48 off 13 overs. Pete Wharton returned to bowl out the last two wickets in the last available over.
Radlett needed a good start against a reachable target, and that is what they were given by the increasingly confident opening partnership of Tom Clare and Marcus Freeman. They put on 46 in 11 overs before a loose cut into the covers accounted for Clare, and Freeman snicked a cut at leg-spinner Hart. Two more wickets fell, but Hussain and Randall took the fight back to the opposition with a stand of 31 in six overs before the field was turned into a lake.
Tahsin's final task was to strip off and collect the boundary flags in the torrential rain.
