Match report A brutal century by Andy Griffiths was the highlight of Radlett V's draw against Cheshunt II at Queens' School, and his great show would have set up the side's first win of the season if a dolly catch had not been dropped in the penultimate over.

It was hard on the team to be denied a deserved victory -- the culprit will have to remain nameless -- and that final victim would have give Peter Wharton his fifth wicket as a reward for some resourceful seam-bowling, dosed with pain-killer to ease his sore back.

The pitch was full of runs, but the prospects of an adequate total did not look encouraging. Openers Mike Dexter and the improving Marcus Freeman saw off the new ball easily without accelerating the run-rate early enough, and at halfway drinks on 23 overs the score had barely reached 70. Griffths, at number four, tore into the bowling with support from Tom Clare and Charlie Randall, and his hundred took less than an hour. Randall was able to declare at 45 overs to give Cheshunt the same number back, but Griffiths' 112 not out was really exceptional, and on another day the final total might have been uncompetitive, as in the previous week at Hertingfordbury.

Wharton looked the most likely to take wickets in his three spells, and Kushal Malde impressed with his seamers without much luck. Ender Tahsin, on his debut, nearly pulled off a miracle catch at extra cover, diving to get a hand under the ball. Freeman held three catches behind the stumps, including a tricky skyer. Griffiths and Wharton apart, this was not much of a Radlett performance, and unfortunately a lasting memory was the final spilled catch as the ball lobbed to point. That and a pair of nice Choice cricket trousers left in the dressing room after the match.
