Match report Another pathetic batting performance from Radlett’s batsmen led a humiliating defeat by 8 wickets to a Langleybury side languishing with us in the cellar of division four.

A lack of willingness to graft and build an innings belies the rich talent present in this mostly young side. But until they take the decision to value their wickets dearly, they will always leave the bowlers with an impossible task. It is of no value to play a couple of champagne shots then get out to a weak stroke. We need to learn this lesson, not tomorrow but right now, or this terrible season of being thrashed by ordinary sides will continue.

We must start, immediately, to bat with guts and determination, keep the ball on the floor, concentrate and work hard. We are not even batting out 53 overs on good wickets. Inexcusable.

Yesterday we batted for 43 overs for 103 all out on a blameless pitch against ordinary bowling. Only Dom Ingram showed any stickability with a decent 34, but even then got out to a loose shot. A good opening partnership of 42 was wasted, and only Rob Willis might have had some cause for a possible bad lbw decision, but then you’ve got to hit the ball, haven’t you? Every other batsman got out needlessly.

It is now likely that we will get relegated and an unpleasant next couple of months looms unless we decide to get ourselves some backbone.
