Match report Sean Fulton needed stitches in his tongue after being injured while batting for Radlett V in their nine-wicket defeat by Northampton Exiles III at Palmers Green. It was a day when everything seemed to go wrong on a decent pitch.
With the whole club in a weak state, Radlett went into this Division 11 game with only two senior batsmen -- and both were dismissed in the first over of the day when Charlie Randall and newcomer Tom Clare nicked deliveries to the wicketkeeper.
In no time Radlett slipped to 12 for five, and only kindly bowling changes, with good hitting from Peter Wharton, spared Radlett utter humiliation as the innings capsized in 20.3 overs. Exiles knocked off the runs in 11.3 overs, and both teams were able to enjoy a leisurely sumptuous tea. The opposition were no better than average, but clearly Radlett were worse.
Fulton was assisting in some tail-end resistance when he top-edged a leg-side shot on to his jaw. He had to retire hurt, feeling groggy, and took no further part in the game. Radlett should have done better in the field when two quite easy catches were shelled before Wharton caught a neat slip catch to glean Radlett's only point from the day.
