Radlett CC 1st XI v Slough on Sat 25 Jul 2009 at 11.00 a.m.
Match was Drawn

Match report Radlett's took their unbeaten run to ten games, but were disappointed to only take a draw off a dogged Slough team. The wicket was into it's fifth day after hosting Middlesex's second team in a four day game in the week, but still looked like it would survive the weekends cricket, so the toss would be crucial. Slough won it and unsurprisingly asked Radlett to bat.

The decision looked to have back fired as Kabir Toor and Leo Sandino-Taylor added 93 for the first wicket with the latter being particularly savage on some wayward Slough seam bowling. The crowd were entertained as both players cut, drove and pulled the new ball to all corners of the ground. As has happened a few times this season at Cobden Hill, the home side then lost wickets in clutches. Toor went LBW to Sher, Jenkins followed next ball and then Burger went the following over caught behind. Sharma and Sandino-Taylor rallied before the opener, who had look exceedingly comfortable, mis-hit a chip over mid-wicket and was caught well by Arshad.

Sharma fell the very next ball to one that kept low and then Dungaria was unlucky to be given caught behind. Radlett had gone from 93-0 to 113-6 in the space of 30 minutes. Slough were understandably chirpy during thie period but again, like at Banbury seven days earlier, the Radlett lower order came to the rescue. Mike Crocker (34) steadied the ship, well supported by Paul Barker and Shil Patel. When Crocker went, his brother Robert Crocker joined Patel to add a valuable 35 for the last wicket to leave Radlett with a tasty 231-9.

To win the game, Radlett had to remove the HCPCL's leading run scorer Sher early and he was soon at the wicket after an early spell of tight seam bowling from Shane Burger and Heath Paynter. Neither got the wicket their pressure deserved, but Radlett turned to their spin wizard Toor to begin the charge to victory. Toor bowled a superb spell before tea to leave Slough in disarray as he removed their first five batsmen with every trick in the leg spinners armoury. Slough had no answer. Actually, they did have an answer and it was called Stonewall.

Needing a victory to keep their slim hopes of HCPCL cricket next season alive, Slough did exactly what they shouldn't have. They blocked the next 20 overs. On a pitch that was easy paced and with Toor tiring, defense became easy. And although Radlett continued to pick up wickets through Barker, Slough had decided a draw was enough and that is what they got. Special mention should go to Toor who final figures of 23-7-47-6 where just desserts for a bowler who really stands out in this competition.
