Radlett CC 1st XI v Farnham Royal on Sat 04 Jul 2009 at 11.00 a.m.
Radlett CC Won By 128 runs
Match report
Radlett completed the first half of the season with perhaps one of the most uneven contests the HCPCL has ever seen. Farnham Royal won the toss and decided to bat on a wicket with some very fresh grass which was sure to assist the new ball. And it did exactly that with Leo Sandino-Taylor (0) and Kabir Toor (20) both being removed cheaply as the home side initially struggled against some disciplined new ball bowling. At 47-2 the visitors were slightly on top but when Shane Burger joined Tom Jenkins at the crease the opening attack began to wilt.
For the next 273 runs the pair dominated in such fashion that there were the suggestions that the Farnham Royal players were fans of sado-masochism. Rarely in any walks of life can two human beings been so dominant over 11 others. It was like watching 11 drunken lads on a stag do in Bournemouth picking on the two local teetotal bare-fist knuckle fighting champions. Credit to Farnham as they stuck to their arduous task but Jenkins and Burger were unstoppable. Boundaries flowed like wine at a Roman orgy with both players equally savage on the visitors bowling. The only black mark against the pairs outstanding innings was Jenkins' hilarious stonewalling of the last ball of the innings when the 15-strong crowd bayed for more carnage.
During the break, the only danger to Radlett walk to victory was the suggestion that Toor and Sandino-Taylor would quit the sport after missing out on the run fest.
The pitch was now flatter than the balloons from Queen Elizabeth's 1953 Coronation and although Heath Paynter did excellently to snare his solitary wicket, it was always going to be spin that would win the game for Radlett. To that end Robbie Crocker and Toor combined in such a devastating spell that any team in the league would have found it tough to survive against the pair. Crocker picked up a richly-deserved 5 wicket haul which included some excellent close catching from Shil Patel, Jenkins and Sandino-Taylor. Toor bowled as well as any leg spinner at this level has and would have caused any batsmen trouble with the way he bowled in picking up his 4-51.
The win moved Radlett to fourth and sets them up nicely for the visit of 1st placed Henley this weekend.
