Potters Bar v Radlett CC 1st XI on Sat 27 Jun 2009 at 11.00 a.m.
Match was Drawn rain
Match report
On a hot and humid day in Potters Bar, Radlett's skipper Shane Burger won the toss and elected to field first on what looked like a wicket that might assist the seamers early on. His decision was proved right when Heath Paynter struck early with 2 quick wickets to take the score to 26 for 2.
Burger and Paynter combined well together as they did the previous week against Oxford when the pair took 7 for 91 between them. It was the same story again this week with the two applying pressure on the batsman the whole time and creating chance after chance. Unfortunately Radlett's fielding let them down on occasions. Burger and Paynter broke through twice when the score was on 40 and the home side were struggling on 40 for 4. At the lunch break the score was 86 for 6 and it looked like Radlett would complete the game early. However, Potters Bar showed good fight back ability and managed to move the score to 201 before they were all out. Paynter the pick of the bowlers with figures of 17 over's 6 maidens 5 wickets for 32 runs.
Kabir Toor and Tom Jenkins opened the innings for Radlett and looked solid as a combination. Toor was unluckily dismissed in the gully when it looked as though the ball had not carried all the way to the fielder. Mike Crocker joined Jenkins and looked solid, playing some fine strokes before he was caught and bowled for 23. Jenkins was the main stay of the innings and looked in good form playing all his array of shots around the wicket. Fakir Dungaria joined Jenkins and together the added a stand of 68 before Dungaria was caught for a well played 30. All of a sudden rain hit Potters Bar and due to the lightning and thunder the match could not continue. Radlett stranded 60 runs short with 6 wickets in hand.
Shane Burger said "It is a shame we lost out again due to the weather, however we know that we cannot control the weather. We were cruising to victory and it would have been 2 good wins on the trot for us. This week becomes very important to us in terms of securing 25 points against last placed Farnham Royal."
